Customs and duty info...?
Does USPS cost more to get it shipped initially? So if i were to spend about 800 CAD and get it shiped to me any idea what I might be looking at? Would it be worth just paying more for USPS to get it here then pay less duty?
Trust me, pay the extra and go with USPS. Here's an example, I paid 75$ to get my aftermarket headlights shipped from California to my door via UPS. The ebay seller said that the 75$ was going to cover the duty fees. When it got to my door, the guy said I owed him 60$ and I said what for? He said it was for brokerage fees?? I was pretty pissed off.
Send it USPS as a gift, money saved. I've mailed things to Canada before with little to no duties owed. It's a little more when you ship express international but it's money saved when you do it right.
Ship with usps or fedex to canada. Ups charges brokerage fees and customs (pst/gst/duties if applicable). I believe their brokerage fee is approximately $50 for handing papers to customs. Plus depending on the value of the item, they charge an incremental fee.
Canada post charges a nominal handling fee of $5 and $8 if the item is express shipped. Fedex is similar. You will rarely pay duties depending in the item. But yeah gst and pst are applied. If the value is over $50 they are likely to charge taxes, even if its labelled a gift.
But honestly I think canada customs applies fees randomly to packages.
If you have to ship ups, try a mailbox across the border like the letter carrier in point roberts. He charges $2 to hold packages for 30 days.

Yeah the 2 options it gives me is .. United Parcel Service - canada standard ... or ... United States Postal Service - Express mail international or Priority mail international
I thought you usually tells ya the duty costs and all that before ya pay for it?
