Solution to server Fix

me and a friend of mine were thinking of whats slowing down this server

37 thousand people on here.
everyone has pics
hundreds on at one time
inactive users
multiple posts.

one way to free up a lot of spac eon the server is to delete inactive users.

Anyone that has not been active on this site for 6 months should have their account deleted. IF they want back. simply re register.

I think this would free up a lot of space here.

What you think?

Yes, I agree. But instead of 6 months, lets go for 3. Also, I have been one to think that more moderation should be done. Threads should have to be approved before being viewable. How often do we see several different threads all asking the same thing?

I know that the mods on here have lives and can't spend every waking moment on here, it's just a thought that I had.

6 months is good.

most people jsut use the site for mods and stuff. so they lurk. but not often

6 months would be good.

think about how much would b ccleared up? 5 years of inactive users?

Deleting the inactive members will only do so much..

They need a bandwidth update...

Yea true.

But it will take more than just clearing up of inactive users IMO. They should donate some time and delete a bunch of old repetative threads as well. But as stated, I know the mods have a life outside of this site. I would hapily become a mod though.

The issue is the amount of people online, not inactive accounts.

That and the amount of posting being done. Both with and without images. I'm guilty of posting random 'spam' images. But that's where the biggest problem lies. That's what is using up so much bandwidth.

If pictures are hosted on other sites, there's no bandwidth taken against css.net. If you want to free up a shitload of bandwidth, remove off topic section all together.

it takes up space on the server. thus already slowing the server down.

think of inactive users like temporary internet files and cookies.

u clear those off ur comp. ur comp is faster.

This is an example of what should get taken care of. Random pointless posts in a thread that is made to better the site.

The site problem is a combination of problems I would guess. One is bandwidth and two is the SQL database. I don't know what kind of server the site is running on, but the SQL threads maybe taxing it out causing errors and crashing the database.

Disable the (XX viewing) counts next to section titles.
Disable Who's Online at bottom of forum index.
etc etc.

those types of frivolous features create huge sql database queries.

the math says johnny makes about 50k a year off this site...he has another also...the hhr site.

both of them have PAYING support members and PAYING premi members...AND he sells stuff...so 50k a year MINIMUM AND...this is just a side gig..not full time from what i understand, so this is all just extra money, for 50k a year he could BUY a server and LOTS of bandwidth and even have someone part or full time take care of the site....but where does that money go....no one knows....

I won't buy a premium membership because I know it won't go towards the site.
