Solution to server Fix
Speaking of premium memberships, those people should also have until the premium part of their membership expires before they get deleted.
That'd suck to pay for a membership, not log on for a while, and now your account is gone that you paid for.
Doing this with free memberships would be more cut-and-dry.

Main reason why inactive users will not be deleted, it fluffs the user count for business.
To me I would look at the hosting company and package. If the server is independent then that would be better as well.

If everyone hosted their pictures off site that would help too. Some users photo gallery's are huge. People who quote post's with 10 pictures in it over and over can't be helping much either . Sig's gotta be a bandwidth hog, maybe take sig's away for free members, give them a reason to go premium
Well I took the liberty of clicking the properties on most pictures around and guess who is hosting them? Photobucket.... Clearing inactive users wont do anything... They are inactive = not using bandwidth...
Should be enough premium members here for the owner for spring for a new server or more bandwidth. But god forbid it cuts into someones paycheck.
Or to keep the whoring to a minimum limit non premium members to 5 posts a day. about 50,000 different ways to handle the situation.

Just to clear it up:
Bandwidth problems = slow site
Database error = SQL problem
The major problems with the site are not caused by bandwidth, so cutting pictures is not going to matter. Deleting inactive users doesn't do much either. The site is simply so big the SQL database is getting fubar'd.

deleting users is a great way to free up SPACE, but its not going to get the server to run any better,
a great start would be to delete users with about 1year of inactive, then sort through everyone's images, and get rid of their myspace pictures.

sorry philco. i was just trying to give a solution that i think will help. everyone chimed in on what they think you should do as well.
sorry bout that.
and to the people bashing jonny B.
he has this site up. thats where ur money goes. if u dont want to pay. then dont. but if it ever goes down. dont bitch about it.
ur not even attempting to help the cause.
when u have 37K plus members on one server. its quite a bit.
