Some exhaust advice

So I stumbled upon some money, as I just graduated high school, and I'm going to use it towards exhaust. I know I won't get substantial horsepower gains with exhaust, so the only reason I really want it is to make my car sound nice. I want to let the engine breathe and hear a nice throaty sound.

So I've already decided on getting the Megan Exhaust since it seems like the best "bang for the buck" to me. But I also want to get a header/dp but I have some conditions, and would like some suggestions.

Conditions:
  • must make my car sound nice and enhance the sound of the cat back
  • must be a reasonable price, as I don't have that much money to spend
  • I must be able to detach the downpipe for inspection so I can reattach the stock (so the ZZP combo is out, I think)
  • must be from a reputable brand (i.e. no ebay ****)

That's pretty much it. Thanks guys.

I have the ARK N2 on mine. Im very happy with it. Its a deep sound, and its pretty loud (not annoyingly loud) for what it is. Its a bit pricey though but thats the only real down thing on it.

Thanks, but would it kill you to read the post instead of just the title?

well your title does say exhaust advice, shouldve refrased it then. no need to be rude

before you get just any good dp. you better make sure that the aftermarket dp fits your 2.4. ive been hearing so much about problems installing it and having the cat rub against the sway bar

i got the xtc dp cuz the cat is smaller than the stock cat

I was looking at a Pacesetter Monza cat back (around $300) and even on a 2.2 it sounded awesome! You can find a video on youtube.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound rude. That's just how I talk, lol. It probably doesn't translate well to the computer.

Nice sounding: deep, throaty, not raspy, loud, but not annoyingly loud
Price window: preferably under $400 overall

thanks

Also, one more thing. I changed my mind on the catback to the Tsudo after just learning of its existence. It's price was irresistible and the reviews are mostly positive here. So I just bought it. I'll probably be buying the dp next towards the end of July and then the header right before I go to college.

most all cobalt exhausts are raspy. its just the nature of the beast, unless you own a TC. also when you order the DP that will make a BIG difference in how the catback sounds. are you planning on running a cat or no cat?

If you only plan on doing some exhaust work..then I would get a Cat-back first... If you do a DP with a high-flow cat or no cat, then most likely your going to get a CEL..
but unless you do a header-DP combo then your not going to gain a real deep throaty sound with still using a stock cat-back---in other words a DP is not going to give you a good sounding exhaust...
I would recommend going with a SLP, or Megan Cat-back...

That's something I still have to decide. I'm not quite sure what difference that would make.

Yeah, I just ordered the Tsudo cat back. It's really really deep sounding from what I've heard.
