08 or 09 for autocross?

Ok folks. You have a converted Cobalt fan. I've had a lot of success in my 05 Mini S in autocross for the last 4 years and have been usually top in my region. However, the Mini will eventually be bumped up a class into DS, which the SS/TC is in. My question to you guys is, was there any changes (small changes are big to me ) that were made from 08 to 09? If so what?

I'd love to pick up a used 08 instead of paying a haggled down price of a new one. I will be making this decision fairly quickly, so any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Pretty sure they're identical but maybe a tc owner will chime in.

08 and 09 are the same mechanically. You can get the RPD in the 09 though, that is if you really want it.

Ok thanks guys. I'll start looking for a used 08 then. Anyone know the weight difference on the 09 Sedan to the Coupe?

yeah, I thought the weight of a sedan was closer to 3200Ibs? But I dont really know. I saw some one here autocrossing the white cobalt ss sedan, he weighed + him in it about 3158Ib?

You can find his videos on youtube, amazing car isn't it? Look up cobalt ss vs viper, and cobalt ss vs super snake. He has another one vs a supra tt with a single turbo upgrade.

My coupe sits at 3100# at race weight for SCCA stock class. (me in it @ 250#, about 2-3 gallons of fuel in the tank, no spare, no jack, no floor mats). At least regionally, we've kinda been the holy terror here so the car itself is competitive.

Ok, just summing some stuff up and it's looking like I'll be ordering mine through the dealer pretty soon. Any opinions on the new info LCD display available on the 09? Just wondering if it's actually a nice upgrade worth getting of if it just gets in the way.

Also, anyone got a pic of a white TC/SS with some black rims? Wanna see if I like the look before I buy a white car....which I said I'd never do.

get it with the rpd pretty sure it reads afr so it would be a nice thing to have when u tune the car. plus its worth over 900 if u were to have it installed after instead of the 295 option

wat did u have done to ur mini and pics of it? my buddy has one with full ast suspension, roll cage, tbe, intake, intercooler, and ssr rims.

It was a near bone stock Mini S until last year since I was racing in a stock class. I had a set of 16" racing wheels with some Kumho V710's stickies for shoes. Very fast car and took Driver of the Year in my region in it. I retired it and the wife took it over as a commuter car. I put on a CAI, 15% pulley and a custom catback for an increase of around 30-40 HP. Wife surprisingly loved the MUCH louder SC whine. Buyers are picking up next week though, we'll be sad to see it go, it's been a great car.

if u get an 08, check the rear pads. there is a defect known in them. they tend to scour the rear rotors leaving some sweet ridges and eventually sounding like your driving with the pads completely worn down which they will not be. other than that I believe they are the same. If I could change anything bout my '08, I would love to have the RPD from .the 09.

and a small block v8 would be nice, and rear wheel drive and.......

will do on the pads. I'll keep my eye out, although I think I'll be ordering an '09. With all the rebates and haggling that I think I can do, I won't save that much from a used 08 to a brand new 09. Also, it's sounding like most of you are saying yes on the RPD, so I'll be adding that in.

BTW, I like the white with the charcoal...can't believe I'm thinking of buying a white car.

Thanks for the help guys. I should have plenty of video of me running the new car in a couple months. I figure by the time I get the car ordered, buy some wheels and get some sticky R-compounds, it'll be about 2-3 months.
