Auto shifting question....
Auto shifting question....
Sorry if this has been discussed before but the search thing is horrendous... I tried..
When trying to take off quickly in an auto can you go from L to I to D to get better acceleration.
If so, how exactly do you do it?
sorry if this a noob question.. but I dont give no ****....

L is great for launching because of no traction control and you get a couple hundred more rpms out of 1st as well as a harder quicker shift into 2nd once in 2nd and still wot put the lever from L to I this will allow for the car to go into 3rd when needed and as far as D you dont really need to put it back into drive until you wanna go back to regular driving.
no just floor it in L and once its at about 6500 rpms it will shift into 2nd then once in 2nd just put it in I from L while still flooring it, you wont feel anything change except a t/c light on the dash. so no u dont have to take ur foot off the gas let the car do everything.
As stated above in "L" it will automatically shift into second at redline and will stay in 2nd until you shift into "I". In "I" the tranny will shift into third and will down shift into 2nd and 1st as you slow down. You can leave it in "I" around town if you want to -- it keeps the tranny from shifting up into overdrive so gas mileage will suffer.
justypontiacg5gt "Uhhh in I it will tach out. You have to shift into drive cuz it will bounce off the rev limited. " -- My 2.4L was shifting from 2nd into third at 70+ MPH...what speed are you going to tach-out the rev limiter in 3rd?

don't lift your foot bud. i've been launching and downshifting my auto for years now. 74K later and she never misses a shift and chirps taking second on the trifecta tune. you guys should play with that auto a little more it'll surprise the **** outta ya.
Guys, look at the How to. You start in Low and it will shift to second, then go up to I and it will shift to third. If you are launching for the track, you wont need more than that. You can drive like that because D only allows you to go up to the top gear for cruising.
and its an automatic guys, you never need to take your foot off the gas

Car isnt worth anything past 70. It has no get up and go. Im disappointed when I try to pass someone when Im doing 70.
Just leave your car in L and keep the pedal to the carpet and wait for the RPM to top out and then change to I. Ive had a few instances in which the car RPM guage bounced up and down cause of the redlining it.
If the car breaks, it breaks. THats the chance you take when running hard.

i guess it depends on if you have a 2.2 or 2.4. The 2.4 has shorter gearing than the 2.2, but not THAT much shorter. it should still be redlining over 100mph

Cant tune just yet. I dont want to cause my PAID warranty to be voided. Im sure they would try to say that the tune caused all the issues ( If i had any). I hear that the injectors are too small and the car runs rich from the factory. Is this correct?
You are unfortunately correct...when passing the car lacks power if you shift into "I" before you pass. It is best to punch it with the selector in "D". Makes no sense but if you try it you'll see.
