so yesterday i went to Mothers to get my pulley installed and the guy tells me $320 !!! i was like wow this is crazy i went to another one the guy said $275 so i called my friend said he knows the owner of a shop and he tells he $125 but also depends on the amount of work it will take but i know when he finds out he has to take off the supercharger which i told him but he didnt really wanna listen its gunna jump to $225

 

Do it yourself man. Hey I asked my friend. He said if my installation is easy to do he would definately do yours. We already bought the pulley puller so everything should be easy.

 

ok good... well i am going to the guy tomorrow the store is ACOSTA RACING idk if you've ever heard of it... anyways if he stays at the $125 i am just going to let him do it other then that i might go rent the tool from a store of if anything have your friend do it.

 

Yeah alright, well my friend works at a chevy dealership so I trust him. If you need the tool i'll rent it to you for like $10. (I still have to consult with him though because we both own half of the pulley puller....lol we split the cost)

take the S/C off yourself. then take it to any shop. around here I can get the pully changed for like 20 buks if I take the s/c off myself.

 

I agree...If they charged you any more than like $40 to install the pulley once you taken off the supercharger, then they are ripping you off.

We are doing it this weekend. I want to do it today actually sometime after 3 p.m. but he's probably working. But by Saturday, latest Sunday, it should be on.

 

the SC comes off with like 8 bolts. can't be too difficult

 

Yeah but aren't there parts that you can mess up if not done correctly while uninstalling/installing the supercharger?

 

not really, it is just part of the intake. you need to disconnect a few lines, and disconect the TB. Then just take off the SC. Thats it. Shouldn't need to be a rocket scientist to do it. Some people say to replace the gasket, but it is Metal and can be reused many times.

yea i was telling my friend all you have to do it to take off the supercharger and he was telling me to replace the gasket... yea the one shop i was like what about if i bring you guys the supercharger and he was like $75 i was like HA! ill go rent the tool for $30

$75 isn't that bad....Still kinda pricey. They'd probably do it quick. My friend (bluecobaltss06) has never done a pulley swap but he's pretty good at doing stuff with cars so I trust him. Like he said, If it goes well he will think about doing yours...And if it doesn't, you will have to turn to a shop and I will have to buy a new car lol.

 

I payed $160.00 at the dealership for a full stage 2 w/reflash.

 

ya haha lol... what about belts ? did you purchase a new belt or if i do it myself do i just throw the stock belt right onto the 3" pulley ?

 

I never did a pulley swap before but if you have help all it takes is a little muscle. Just make sure you follow the instructions with the puller and use never-cease.

 

Just keep the same belt

 

And do the boost bypass mod too

 

boost bypass mod when you unplug the hose connecting to the little box right ? so then its basically simple how hard is it to get the pulley back onto the belt ?

 

The gasket is reusable and the pulley is a bitch to take off.

The stock belt should be easy to get back on. The smaller belt that came with my kit was a bitch. The good part is that I can easily take my pulley off my hub and stick a 2.8 on there at the grocery store. Boost bypass dosent seem worth it to me.
