View Full Version : went to test n tune at Zmax
09turbo 07-11-2009, 03:13 AM I live about 20 minutes away from Zmax in Concord NC.
i have been there before but first time at a tnt. VERY nice track.
realized they were having a tnt tonight. got there and there were hardly any cars so i figured it would be an awsome time to run.
best reaction was .094
best 60 foot was 2.340
best run was a 14.183 @ 102.26
ehh, i did ok. im not the best at launching.
no love for my personal best 1/4 run? lol
MARIN007 07-11-2009, 11:14 AM I'm sending my love to your personal best 1/4 mile run. :D
Good time man. How was the track prep? Got a lot of spin off the line?
09turbo 07-11-2009, 12:47 PM it was alrigt. im not the best at launching, so all the other runs i spun too much.
i need to work on that. lol, thanks.
yobrigidey 07-11-2009, 09:00 PM Since it was a TNT, try focusing more on your launches and watching the tachometer than catching the tree well. You're R/T won't affect your E/T, so try focusing on your launch, even if you leave the gate 4 or 5 seconds after the light goes green.

yea i know your time starts when YOU leave. not when its green. that one was just for fun, with the launch control haha.
but yea i need to practice on my launches. any tips?
i hold it about 2000 2500 and then pretty much dump the clutch and kinda feather the gas if it starts to spin...
xCobalt05x 07-12-2009, 01:08 AM nice. any mods to the car?
09turbo 07-12-2009, 01:12 AM nice. any mods to the car?
K&N drop in and a 3inch catback with just a magnaflow race muffler :guns:
xCobalt05x 07-12-2009, 01:19 AM sweet, i can't wait to run my car on the track now that it is boost'd

sweet. what are you expecting? the 2.2s are pretty fast.

i was expecting to hit a 14 flat. But i downloaded this quart mile calculator program. I filled in my cars weight and the WHP i dyno'd at (258.94 and the RPM it hit that at, the time came out at 13.75, and then i realised i entered in the WHP and it wanted Flywheel horse power, so i had to re enter that field in and re calculate it. the cars weight, and left the RPM the same 6323, and enter in 323.68 (323.68 - 20% = 258.94whp) and the 1/4 time calculated out to a 12.78.
So now im just hoping to hit somewhere in the mid 13's to high 13's
EXsoccer1921 07-12-2009, 01:52 AM '05 if you get a decent launch i'ld say a 13.8-13.9 maybe. you gotta remember those calculators are based soley on numbers. not wind resistance, tire spin, acceleration, etc

cool cool. idk how reliable those things are. i was wanting to get a 14.00 flat or even a 13.9
but i just couldnt launch right...
chris88z24 07-12-2009, 01:54 AM Do NOT dump the clutch on street tires unless you want to break something and or get a horrible 60 foot. Feather the clutch and gas so it accelerates hard but doesn't spin the tires. It takes practice to find that sweet spot.

kinda slip the clutch from 2000 so it doesnt spin?

you'll be in the same spot i am.. probably mid 13;s we both have pretty much the same power and similar delivery
chris88z24 07-12-2009, 02:03 AM kinda slip the clutch from 2000 so it doesnt spin?
Yeah, well thats the sweet spot on the SC cars. Not sure about the TC. Just go out and practice and you'll get better.

thats what i hear all the other TC guys doin. i just need practice, as this IS my first stick shift car and i havent have the car a yeat yet lol
xCobalt05x 07-12-2009, 02:24 AM except i dont have any wheel spin when i launch, lol. i dont hit boost until im already 60ft down the track (elec remember, im an automatic)

yeah, thats why i added a full second to its lowest estimated. mid to high 13's should be about right, but i dont know.... i'll be slapping in some rear spring blockers so the car wont squat when i take off, and the fact that im automatic makes a little bit of a difference. I have yet to ever spin my tires on a launch of any kind at all (and yes, even from a street light w/ my turbo i have yet to spin tires. Even while holding the brake in and pushing the R's to 2,000. still never spun my tires)

oh i know your auto will help you out .. lol i'm just saying if i could get a good launchn i'd be a mid 13s car.. however.. i couldn't get any good launches lol
09turbo 07-12-2009, 01:42 PM thats kinda good though, so you know its all tracktion lol. i wanna know your times when ever you go. theres not to many automatic turbo balts are there? lol
1badBlueberrySC 07-12-2009, 01:46 PM I'll get ya in the low 13s! :D

09turbo 07-12-2009, 02:08 PM damn that is a bad ass tune! i was thinking MAYBE 300 lmfao was i wrong.
maybe i will buy that extra ECU
1badBlueberrySC 07-12-2009, 02:24 PM Dude I made 307 when I was bone stock tune only!
09turbo 07-12-2009, 02:34 PM i mean all i have is a 3inch catback and a K&N drop in...
xCobalt05x 07-12-2009, 06:36 PM wow, that awesome that it only takes you guys very little to get down that low. sweet deal.
09turbo 07-12-2009, 08:16 PM yea thats if i can launch it
slowstang 07-12-2009, 09:53 PM You're in the ballpark. My first pass ever in my 08 was a lousy 14.8 at 100mph. The more I ran the car the better I got. Like what was already said...slip the clutch from 2000-2500rpm and ease into the throttle. If the trap prep isn't there you really can't do much besides spin with any launch.
Don't count out the launch control either. It's not the best method of launching but if you release the clutch slow it works. On a night with no track prep I was getting low 2.2 60fts without LC...I used LC and got the same 2.2 60ft time.
09turbo 07-12-2009, 11:16 PM yea it seems like the LC is set way too high.
maybe like 2500 would be good. i wonder if you can change that if you get tuned...?
and yea i would like to be in the high 13s before i get tuned, just i know i can handle the car lol

The ss/tc is a high 13 second car. More practice and more experience will net that 13 second pass. I fear that your local track doesn't have the prep for your car to hit the 13???

yea i know it is, now if i can get it there. lol.
and its Zmax. state of the art. i would expect it to be awsome.
but idk the exact deffinition of really good track prep
