My New Car
My New Car
I just purchased (not even kidding, today) a red 2005 Cobalt SS Supercharged with 46,000 miles on it. I already love it. It's a huge step up from my 1998 Mustang GT.
In true car-lover form, I'm already ready to start modding my car. Since I'm way more knowledgeable with Fords, I was wondering if you guys could send me in the right direction on this car.
I already assume the standard headers, exhaust and CAI for the first steps. I've done some research but haven't found much in ways of good mods. So if it isn't too much trouble, could someone help me out with a decent performance mod list (I can do visual detailing stuff myself)? I'm willing to do whatever and spend whatever to beef this car up cause I'm sure it has a lot of potential. Thanks in advance!
Oh, and I found out that apparently these cars can suffer from a great deal of traction loss and wheel hop in first gear since it's so short. Normally, I'd suggest getting new gears to change up the ratio and make first longer but FF cars aren't my thing so I don't even know if you can do that! I've only done work on FR cars. So does anyone know of a good solution to this problem?

Thanks for the welcome guys.
A full exhaust was on the list but I didn't know about the heat exchanger!
and stage 1? I'm assuming that's some kind of superchip tune that comes from Chevy? cause I haven't found any aftermarket tunes yet!

Its a smaller pulley for the supercharger, bigger injectors a belt and a tune, i think thats the stage one but you need all of the above thats going to be your biggest power adder but you need to figure out how much power you are wanting you might be better to get 60 pound injectors over the gm stage 2, 42 pounders

the solution for the first gear problem are rotated transmission mounts sold by OTT and Torque solution i believe
u can checkout overthetopperformance.com and zzpperformance.com for parts for your car

Ottp stage 1 is a good start. If you have a good tuner around you i would get a 2.8, 60lb injectors, heat exchanger and a good tune. If thats not an option go with ottp stage 1 fo sho!
What level of craziness are you looking for? You've got from slightly sporty or insane...
GM-wise you've got Stage 1-3. Be advised that although stage 3 allows for nitrous, it disables your A/C.
Then you've got others that have their own stage kits:
Stage 1-6 from Cobalt-Addiction.com that keeps a supercharger and beefs up everything else.
OTTP has many parts.
Hahn Racecraft has "Level" 1-5
etc...
There are even turbo refit kits out there for those things putting out some serious V8-spanking power.
It all depends on what you're wanting and what the budget is. The information resources are found here as well as the vendors.
