Should i?
Should i?
So i have been driving an 07 lt coupe for the last couple of years since i decided to go back and finish my degree. now i am within weeks of being done and have been working fulltime for a while, so my income has gone back up to levels where i can actually enjoy life (no more ramen weeks).
i love everything bout my cobalt, except for the fact that it is an automatic (and that i seem to have got the only LT that had hubcaps). my past cars have been an srt-4 and a gto, both manual transmissions. so i have been pretty much miserable driving around in this car, no enjoyment with the auto. even though i have gone down from the 400hp (gto) to 150 in the cobalt, i actually dont mind the reduced power. its got enough pep to get the job done.
the situation is that the dealership i used to work at, they just got a dark red 07 coupe lt that has real wheels, sunroof, spoiler (all things mine does not have) and the most important part.......MANUAL TRANSMISSION!
ideally i would like to get something like genesis coupe down the line, but i really think at this point in my life, i just want to get something that is somewhat fun to drive, but doesnt cost 20k+.
so my question is, should i jump at this car? it would add a 2 to 3 thousand to the life of my loan, but that still seems better than spending 20k in a year or two.
my enthusiast side says that its worth the extra g's to have something that i enjoy driving, instead of being reminded that i am just along for the ride everyday in the AT cobalt i have now. the logical part of my mind says that i should just stop being a little bitch and just be happy with the cobalt i have now and pay off the loan. what wuold you do?

yea, i hear ya. in a way it is upgrading trims, since it will have wheels, side airbags, sunroof and spoiler, all things that did not come with my car. for me, being able to shift adds so much more excitement to the drive. i want to tell myself that i should just put it off until my car is paid off, but i know that will be a couple years, and i dont know if i can stay good that long. its been a really hard 2 years with this auto, ha

so for that 3g. its a damn good thing. but is it 4 lug or 5 lug? if its 5 lug then thats even better
the main reason i am considering this is that when i got my current cobalt, i got it with the intention of keeping it for a long time. now that this car has come along, i realize that i would enjoy it a lot more over the long haul, so the 2g's that it would be adding onto the loan doesnt seem like a huge deal compared to the added enjoyment
I was thinking of trading in my '08 auto to get a '10 Colorado with a 5-speed just so have a stick again and I could be more independent of my parents while Im in college (move myself, take my bike with me on trips), but I've come to realize its worth it to spend the money to just turn what I have into what I want and be realistically happy, keep it until the loan is paid and save my money for something nicer once Im out of school. I graduate in 2012 so maybe a Cruze SS or Cruze coupe will be out by then since the Camaro is a little too big for me living around DC.
UPDATE:
after some serious thinking (and test driving a 3.8 V6 genesis coupe) i have decided to just keep the car for a while). i want me next car to be a true upgrade in all areas of the car (performance, looks, quality, refinement). the genesis coupe seems to fit that bill at an attractive price. when i do buy one, it will be used, so heres to hoping that the genesis' resale value is as bad as the cobalts! ha
