View Full Version : CIA performance CP
CudaJoe 07-24-2009, 09:44 AM Dan,
I was just curious about the performance charge piping you sell, (the one with the shorter travel distance for charged air)...
You said it is one solid piece, but I was wondering if it runs directly over the oil filter cap?
If thats the case then it might be a big pain in the butt to change the oil in the car.
or does the charge pipe run across the engine in a way that you can still easily get to the oil filter cap?

it doesnt look like it covers the oil but on of the spark plugs...so it would be interesting to hear if its easy to get to that plug.
CudaJoe 07-24-2009, 10:30 AM how can you tell? lol, I cant even see the oil filter cap!
Im thinking they should make the hot side two pieces simply so its easier to access the engine.

scroll over ;) yes it clears the oil cap just fine. Its the 2nd plug over you should be worried about.
DAmn it you meant FILTER!!! aahhhh hahaha sorry dude. Ummm idk then.
I looked at the other pic they have and it looks like it covers that little hole you get to put the socket through. I'm 90% sure you'd have to remove the pipe to do a oil change.

CudaJoe 07-24-2009, 11:06 AM ugh that really sucks, rallycobalt06 had a 1.25 inch hexigonal rachet and it fit like a glove, looks like stockwise you can simply use that plus a 10" extension to get it and the ratchet is a snug fit against the hot side stock charge pipe.
Like I said, I think they need to make the hot side into two sections, at least make it an option. That way it can be rotated out of the way.
northvibe 07-24-2009, 11:07 AM the current one almost looks like it can be rotated... just undo the back clamps and move it to the left (passenger side).
CudaJoe 07-24-2009, 11:07 AM actually, I just looked at the pic you posted. It might have enough room after all?
northvibe 07-24-2009, 11:16 AM the hole to drop the extension is just right of the intake manifold. I think that pipe covers it. BUT I think if you undid the coupling on the turbo to the CP you could move the pipe over a inch or couple and get it to work.
Stamina 07-24-2009, 11:19 AM I've got the CIA performance pipes on my car. Let me know what pics you're wanting specifically and I'll take/post them up over my lunch break or after work.
I didn't take note of position up top. You may need to loosen one clamp to change the oil filter. Honestly though, the clamp up by the turbo (pipe side of it) is one of the easiest IMO to get to and insure it's tightened down. So don't stress too much about that positioning.
The whole set consists of three pipes. Turbo-to-radiator area basically, radiator area to the IC, then the coldside between the IC and throttle body. The position/angle of the one clamp in the radiator area is such that you can rotate the top pipe left and right across the engine if need be.

sweet, yeah post pics of looking top down on the engine, specifically where the oil filter is. And on top of the engine for me, I want to see where the pipe covers the plugs.
Thanks!
reign1 07-24-2009, 11:34 AM ill show u a picture. u can decide

yeah it goes right over. lol.
i pay 10 bucks for labor on my oil change. worth every penny for no hassle...

who does it for you?
reign1 07-24-2009, 11:37 AM who does it for you?
Superautobacs (not called superautotoyz)
northvibe 07-24-2009, 11:40 AM yup cudajoe that is directly over the oil filter.
CudaJoe 07-24-2009, 11:55 AM awww. lol. I guess if I asked Dan, when ever I plan on getting that pipe, I'll get him to cut the pipe just after the first bend on the 5inches of straight segment there.

like the others said too, I dont think thats necessary. I think if you just undo the coupler on the turbo you can easily turn the whole charge pipe to the side and have room. But you could cut it too I suppose...

Yeah, like I said, just loosen the top clamp and rotate. It's uber easy.
I was worried about the oil filter/CP overlap too before I ordered them, but it's turned out to be a non-issue with as easy as it is to reposition.
northvibe 07-24-2009, 12:18 PM do you put something over the turbo so nothing falls in?
Stamina 07-24-2009, 12:24 PM do you put something over the turbo so nothing falls in?
I didn't since there wasn't anything around that could fall in at the time. I'd probably recommend it looking back though, especially if you're going to leave it for a while. Bugs are known for crawling up in things when you leave.
CudaJoe 07-24-2009, 12:47 PM I'd use a fluffy little kitten. there not strong enough to pull them selves out of the turbo and their fur can clean the inside of the turbo.
julius41282 07-24-2009, 12:54 PM So if you get this CP, then you basically should start changing your oil yourself? Cuz I know the dealership is gonna be like WTF?? How am I supposed to do this!

I'd say most people change their own oil. I know I do all my own work unless its warranty. I dont trust others....
julius41282 07-24-2009, 01:08 PM I got a free oil change so I couldn't pass it up! Just saying that they might even turn you away b/c they may not want to touch anything aftermarket.

maybe but charge piping is more of appearance/air flow they probably wont question it. A intake though...yes they would question that.
julius41282 07-24-2009, 03:48 PM To my surprise...the dealership said nothing about my intake or CP...I guess they didn't care.

for a oil change? no. But if you ever have engine problems etc. then they will start to criticize the parts. Just a word of warning and why most people swap to stock when they get warranty work done, unless they know people in the dealership.
Stamina 07-24-2009, 07:40 PM Bunch of pics of the black powdercoated CIA Performance CPs Hotside and Coldside

buellfooll 07-25-2009, 12:22 PM I don't think I would want anybody dicking around my beautiful charge pipes but ME. If it takes a little finesse to get to the filter anybody else might use a jack hammer to get to it. That includes a dealer. Change your own. It's NOT that difficult. There's plenty of room under the charge pipe to get a filter in and out. Just make sure you have rags directly under the path the used filter takes on it's way out. The new one goes in with no problem. You just have to slip it in and out horizontally. There is a socket specifically made for the filter available at any parts house but it's not really necessary. I don't remember the size but you could use a socket or a wrench to do the job. Have some fun with your car. Work on it yourself. Sometimes I think I like working on it more than driving it.

Oil filter cap is a 1 1/4" socket. Changed mine just the other day. It helps to have an extension too, so you can get down in there with it.
You'll need a 1/2" drive rachet. I didn't have a 1/2" drive rachet and didn't need a whole new set, so I just got an adapter this time since it's not like the torque would break my smaller drive rachet.

Ah huh! Never thought about it. The special socket I mentioned is 3/8 drive so you don't need bull dozer tools (1/2" drive). And it's kinda short too for easy accessability. THAT'S why you should spend a couple of $. To make the job easier. :twothumbs
wantedSS/TC 08-15-2009, 01:33 PM after seeing these pictures, I need to readjust my CP. It's rubbing on the "arch" metal piece that is right below the oil cap. I'll remove the clamp to the intercooler and move it over more.
