2.0l sc engine swap vs. 2.4l turbo kit

i have found a 2.0l sc motor with 40k on the motor for $3000. i have a 2007 cobalt 2.4l and i was wondering which is the more smart way to go. turbo kit will cost more but is the 2.0l the more smart way to go. i was considering the hahn turbo but for the price of a new motor with sc it seems like a very tempting offer. i understand some tranny work might be neccessary. any thoughts??[/I]

You will have to change everything

Not worth the time or money to swap.

Just go with a turbo.

you could install the SC onto your 2.4, then sell the 2.0 block and make up some of that cash, or go turbo
your call

Yep that's probably your best option if all of the parts are on the 2.0 for the swap.

all the parts are on the motor for swap. what is a good how-to for the installation of the supercharger on the 2.4. and if i did go hahn. does the composite intake manifold support 8 pounds of boost or will i have to get the hahn manifold as well

i have the hahn and it is boosting over 12 psi and the intake manifold is fine. only thing i blew on the intake manifold was 1 of the gaskets but that was an easy fix.

uuummmmmmm.....

this seems obvious, but whats ur goal?

u want a dyno queen? drag queen? fun car to drive around? car thats gonna smoke pretty much everything u run into?

2.0 sc isnt really gonna net u much gains. for less work u could probably get pretty comparable numbers from just building up ur 2.4

2.4 + sc would be nice. boost is always available at full throttle. and ull get some good power across the entire powerband. would probably be an extremely fun car and pretty good at autoX

2.4 + tc would give u the biggest bang for your buck. theres a reason that most automakers moved away from superchargers on I4s and moved to turbos... u get more gains. u wont have the low end and with anything but a small turbo or a variable nozzle turbo (good luck finding one thats meets all the other specs ur looking for) ull experience some lag. going for peak power or lower E.T.? this is ur best choice.

most guys who mod I4s would prefer the turbo. cant really beat the gains. supercharger just dont come close. personally ive got a hard on for that supercharger whine and would probably go for that. plus there is ALOT to be said for a powerbands shape and characteristics... and a supercharger pretty much always has a lot of area under the curve. hey lotus is stillin rockin a super on the exige s and its got a smaller motor than us... although it only makes like 220 hp.

btw, composite manifolds can hold a lot of boost. ive seen people running in the 20 psis no prob... although im not that familiar with ours so i cant really comment...

its really easy and cheap to throw the M62 (SS supercharged) supercharger on there and get some good gains. it wont be as amazing as a turbo but its super cheap and will get you at least 225whp stock everything. easily built to 300+whp. Hunterkiller87 did a How To on here and its pretty good with pictures etc. If you know what you are doing you can accomplish it with his How To but its incomplete at the last couple steps.
