View Full Version : My Trifecta Nightmare
Well...my Trifecta tuner kit arrived today. Hoping it will install smoothly turned out to be the complete opposite.
I charged the PDA and plug it under the steering wheel and waited. The bar loads half the size of my pinky fingernail and stops. No worries because the instructions state that it's normal for the bar to stop and move slow throughout the process. After about 30 mins the thing is still not moving and I'm afraid to remove it or turn the ignition off due to potentially hurting the PCM. I could not call Vince due to him being out of the office.
So I wait patiently and it is now 1hr 45mins. The security system enables and now my key is locked in the ignition. Now the lights on my car shut off. I said fuck it and removed the cable and try to start the car but it won't start! My battery drained and my car had to be jumped. The car is running fine for now....I will contact vince on Monday to see what we can do. The device he sent me had a glitch and froze at the very beginning. I'm praying no damage was done my car.

mrsilent13 08-01-2009, 03:37 AM just restarted....those things have issues sometimes...but you should be alright...charge the battery back up and try and load it again. dont worry...it took 2 or 3 times for me to get that shit to work. those tuners get used by sooo many people that some are starting to go bad...but dont trip if it stops working restart and do it again
hungryhip-ccp 08-01-2009, 03:43 AM and turn you auto lights off silly
If there isnt enough voltage in the battery it will also cause it to fail to load... dont be scared you didnt hurt nothing...
do it again and put a trickle charge on the battery if you have to!
bowtie32 08-01-2009, 05:17 AM dont worry bro, Vince backs up His stuff, also revhigh its not a canned tune. he can have his car tuned a few more times by his program to dial everything in. vince is known to work on the weekends and even show up at peoples house that are close obviously.
Jeffs 06SS 2.4 08-01-2009, 05:29 AM So, when you call vince for a tune, he sends the machine to install it too? I know nothing about tuning but I'm getting ready to start my mods. Thanks.

I promise, as soon as Vince works all this out, the sick feeling in your stomach will be replaced by WOW I love my car again. Try calling him and rest assured you did make a good choice.

Gene Culley 08-01-2009, 10:04 AM I don't know that I would be comfortable using a PDA. That could potentially be an issue. Send an email to Vince. He is very good about getting back to people, even on the weekends.
I'll give it another try today. I'm too excited to wait until Monday but scared at the same time lol. I'll let you know what happens..
Shit happens. I'm sure you'll get it resolved. Good luck.
Well I got some good news. Spoke with Vince today and got it resolved. He said the tuner looses the connection with the PCM at times and it stops it from loading.
The tune feels GREAT!. It drives so much smoother. There is zero delay off the line now. When you floor it the car launches like how its suppose to. GM should be ashamed of themselves for putting that POS tune on these cars.
Trifecta you get :twothumbs
Good to see that everything was resolved so quickly. I definitely need to get a Trifecta tune but I need to get all my bolt ons on first.

no damage is done. just retune again....
if it freezes, make sure the bar doesnt mve for at least 15 mins. if it doesnt, restart the process. GM fixed the whole ECM being fried by tuning software issue that was so infamous on their 90's cars (and early 2000's)

xCobalt05x 08-01-2009, 06:54 PM i had the same issue. but i didnt wait no hour. you have to restart it. shouldnt wait any longer then 15 to 20 min. Just stop it and restart it.
Gene Culley 08-01-2009, 09:21 PM Yes, it takes a little patience. I have been working with Vince a couple of weeks on my SC build and we just continue to get things going in the right direction. I believe I am finished with the tune now. Just have to datalog and get the ok.
I like the way the car moves but I may have Vince make some tweaks. My baby needs to pull a little harder :-D

LOL...I'm saving up for the ZZP Turbo kit for next year. I just need to find someone who can install it.
timberwarp 08-02-2009, 12:34 PM I have the Trifecta tune myself and let me just say for a heavy car (the HHR) the tune changes are night/day difference. No delay on launch. I swear a couple of time that 1/2 sec delay could hurt someone. Mileage is a lot better than before too (at least 2mpg) than stock so that definitely offsets the cost of the tune. As for the mail tuned system, I have done a lot of tuning in the past in my old car (the GP), I decided to fork over the extra $$ and get the cable and use my laptop. From your experience, I am glad I did. Have fun that tune man!
