pissy passenger window! insight anyone?

Power windows have always worked fine speed-wise. No slowing, dying symptons.

One day the passenger side got put up, decided after that it was not going down. Driver side worked so I realized it was most likely the motor assembly.

Fast forward a day, it decides to work, goes down . Get to destination, it decides not to go up. Awesome.

After about 4 hours it works once again goes up.

Next day (today) it works the entire trip home from work, I kept testing it, I just don't get this.

I definitely do not trust it but I'm having a hard time diagnosing what to do, as speed-wise it's normal and it does work. When it feels like it.

Help!

My new TC does this with the passenger window as well. Real intermittent; real annoying! It's going into the dealer tomorrow for other things (power steering) so I'll let you know if they say anything.

Please do, I'm anxious to pull the panel and check voltage as it goes in and out. That'll put wiring out of the question.

Dealer said the window and window crank motor were working fine and they didn't see anything wrong when they checked it out...they did agree to a new power steering motor to solve my intermittent steering failure that was actually working great when I took it in today though...so they seem to know what's up a little better than some of the dealer stories I've read on this site, but I don't know. I have to be in there next week to get the steering motor installed, so I'll complain again and see what they do. Let me know if you end up checking out the voltage.

Thanks for the follow-up, I also read about your steering issue.

Crazy.

Worked today. Starting to blame the master switch in my mind.

My window's been working perfectly since last week. Steering's out permanently now...waiting for dealer to get the part in... At least I'm growing biceps in the process.

Any updates to yours?

Mine also correct itself for the past 2 months, only to fail once again last night and is stuck up. Definitely not thinking it's the motor, it operates just fine.

Fail.

Joe, let me know what you find out and I'll look for prices. Master switch is likely dealer only, but I'll still look.

What did they end up charging you to replace the motor. I'm having the same issue and I'm debating whether to try and fix myself or take it in.

did you check the harness loom from the door to the body? opening and closing the door will stress the wires until they break

My old Z24 did that, the wire snapped in the door harness.

Nothing a little solder and heat shrink couldn't fix.

UPDATE:

Figured the master switch was logical and with my lock/unlock button also being intermittent on it I finally swapped in a locals today to give it a test. Failure , same deal, so I'm eliminating the switch.

Guess it's time to rip off the passenger door panel, hopefully find a way to jump the motor to eliminate it as the issue, then start tracing wires.

Before you rip of the door panel, try this:
Get the window to stop working, open and close (not latch) your passenger door while trying the switch.
I've found a lot of vehicles with electrical concerns in the door, will have broken wires between the body and door.

Most of times its the driver side switch or the driver side wires going between the door and the body.
Its the way its wired ,the power for the passanger side switch is fed from the drivers side.

My passenger side window was doing the same thing, sometimes it worked sometimes it did'nt. After going to two different dealers who had idiots working there and saying nothing is wrong i tried a third dealer who found a loose wire in the main switch on the drivers side that moved about every time I lowered or raised the drivers window. They fixed it and now I have had no problems with the passenger side window for 6 months

Will do, hell I'll try both doors! Good simple suggestion.

Yeah this is why I assumed the driver's side switch.

I swapped out the whole main switch for a working unit with no luck.

All this is leading me to believe I'll be testing wires in the next couple days.

Thanks guys for suggestions thus far.

(referring to my earlier suggestion)

it wouldn't surprise me now that I think about how far these doors swing out :/

UPDATE:

Been getting nice out, so I finally pulled the door panel off. Why didn't I do this month's ago? Holy hell 10 mins later I had it diagnosed at the motor, as both sides of the wiring see power with the switch when pressed as they should.

I feel like **** now as it took 5 mins to remove a panel, and 3 screws, going to buy a motor here ASAP and report back.
