LSJ/L61 Question

quick question. Do LSJ's and L61's share the same mounting points?

I've been doing some research, the specs of the blocks are identical. i have some ideas floating in my head lol.

Can anyone tell me the major differences between the two engines? thanks!

dimensionally its the same block. LSJ has oil squirters for the pistons, different head (similar flowing though), different valves (same size), different cam timing (same profile tho), shorter stroke, stronger rods/pistons, lower CR for those pistons, aaaaand thats about it, though there are electronical differences as well

l61 till 06 has a 7x crank tigger, 07+ l61 and lsj have a 58x crank trigger. the lsj also has an engine oil cooler.

the basic design of the engine is all the same. you could in theory build an lsj in an l61 block, it would require some machine work though (to add the oil squirters and oil cooler)

thanks guys for the input. Basically what I want to do is build a L61 into an LSJ. I have a l61 that i got for free and want to drop in LSJ internals, including a crank.

Minus the crank trigger, does anyone know the other electrical differences between the two?

what year for both engines? and may I ask why? Being that they are so similar, there's really no benefit to swapping LSJ parts into an L61 opposed to just dropping aftermarket L61 parts in.

my SS/SC is an 07. the L61 is out of an 04 Ion

Reason I'm asking is because i got the engine for free from my buddy. I'm looking into building the engine with LSJ crank/rods and forged pistons,,, and then eventually swapping it into my SS and slapping a turbo on it.

electronically, you're looking at a LOT of modifications. it would be cheaper to sell the L61 and buy a LSJ block to work with.
The cars use completely different ECMs, different crank reluctors (as stated), the LSJ has a cam position sensor whereas the L61 doesnt, etc.

however...ill buy that L61 head off of you

i would really recommend looking for another '07 LSJ and building that one up and swapping. Thats about as cheap/straightforward as you can get

How much you wanna spend on the head?

I'd love to find another LSJ bottom end, but i really wanna see if i can build a frankenstein motor lol. I'm not worried about the electrical differences, or the oil cooler. I was thinking of slapping a LSJ head on the l61 bottom end and running an external oil cooler.

given that the LSJ head and the L61 head flow the same numbers (roughly), theres really no benefit to a frankenstein motor. dont expect anything like a K20/K24 frankenstein...lol

it'd be easier to run an LSJ head on the L61 bock if you really wanna do it that way, as the crank reluctor is the only thing that i think needs to be changed (custom flywheel also maybe? IDK manual trannies too well..). Honestly, the easiest and simplest thing to do is build the stock LSJ, or if yu're looking for more displacement, get a custom crank and run anywhere from 2.0-2.3l displacement with it (ZZP is planning on releasing a 2.3l bottom end for the LSJ)

as for the head...well, i bought the wrong year L61 head for $150 shipped with everything but the cams included, so i would look for a similar deal (especially since you got the whole motor for free), but ideally i'd like to get rid of this head i already have first. I dont suppose you'd be willing to help me out and just swap heads with me and ill cover the shipping both ways and throw in like $25?
