New guy with ss/tc

Hello all new guy here with 1 quick question. I have never owned a turbo charged vehicle before so I dont know if this is normal or not. Under hard acceleration i.e. no lift shifting I am hearing a small pop from the exaust like a small backfire when i shift gears. Is this normal? Other than the small backfire noise I here my 09 runs perfect and comming from a background of small block chevys i am compleatly amased by the power and preformance in such a small package. Can't wait for the gm stage 1 kit!

Welcome! you will love your car. The pop means you executed the NLS. Any other noise means you probably hit the rev limiter.

does it matter? I did mine with in a couple weeks of owning it for sure. This whole break in, drive under 4k rpm is BS. The car has that 1k mile tamed down thing built in. I hit 140mph the day I bought mine. Beat the crap out of it with no issues, the car needs to know its your bitch.

1k mile tame down? Never heard of an ecu detuning itself to a set mileage.

While not quite to that extent , that was my philosophy as well.

When did you do your 1st oil change ?

I did mine at 1600 - I'll let the second one ride for a while. I am at ~4600 w/ 73% life remaining - 2400 mile road trip to & from CO helped.

first oil change at 1500 miles. now I do it every 3-4k.

yes there is a 1k mile "break" in. The car drives insanely slow until then. I test drove a broken in SS/tc the night before my purchase and I had a ms3 before. On the test drive the SS was slow as **** merging on a highway..It finally woke up around 900-1200 miles (I drive 30k a year for work so I prolly did those 300 miles in 1 day hahah). Theres been many threads about it...

welcome, and you should hear that "pop" through an open downpipe... my cutout is ALWAYS open, and i have been told many times from buddies that watch me drive away using NLS and they say it shoots a MASSIVE flame... but,,, thats comin from a 3" catless DP with electric cutout lol... pretty awesome sight....
