clutch slip anyone?

Since as long as I can remember every car I have had has been manual and every time I leave the car I leave it in either first or reverse and the car stays were it is. I put my cobalt SS in my driveway which is a 30 degree angle and leave it in first. I come back about 2 hours later and it is about 10 feet further down my driveway from were I left it. I then decided even knowing a clutch isn’t covered in a warranty to take it in. They tested it and saw the same thing happen. The guy did a research and his answer is that GM wants us to put it in gear and use our weakass e-brake together. WTF, I've never had a car need anything but to be put in gear. Anyone else see this happening to you? In that case I hate to see what our stock clutch can actually handle.

i always put my e-brake on no matter what. just because im a little worried about my car rolling away. even if im on an incline and the car is in first i still pull the e-brake just from habit. lol at least you found out about it in your driveway and not in a parking lot or something.

Yea, I habitually put it in gear and pull the e-brake, too. If one fails, you still got the other...

I think you mis-titled the thread. How is your clutch slipping when the car is off?

Question---when you park your car in your driveway is your car angeled up or down?

If its up--you have it in first gear, right?

I don't put my car in gear whenever I park it because people get towed alot where I live and if the tow guys don't cradle the car then they can definately fubar the clutch. E-brake has always been enough for me.

I was thinking the same thing. You can put the car in gear without pressing the cluth when it's off, so I don't see how that would affect it. Just seems like the engine is easy to turn when the car is off. Perhaps because it's only 2.0? Or maybe due to other internals that offer little resistance. I may be completely wrong there, so someone correct me if I am. I've never parked on a hill that steep (I don't think such a hill exists in Phoenix), but I always use reverse + hand brake as noted in the manual.

it's not the clutch slipping it's the motor turning over when it's in gear. Use the ebrake.

almost. I was getting at the of you are pointing down hill---use reverse. Up hill use first.

I can't see how the car would move if you are point down and its iin reverse--or vice-versa

I always put the car in first and use the e-brake. But, the car goes in next week to get the e-brake adjusted. I dont like having to pull it all the way to the top to get it to hold. It should catch around the 3rd or 4th click. Not when it hits the arm rest.

I agree with all of you that you should use the e-brake with putting in gear (just in case method), but my main problem here is that it is only 30 degrees max. That isn't that steep.
And yes I'm facing up hill and in first. And I do the opposite facing down. So it still shouldn't move even without the e-brake.
