Cobalts with Manual Transmissions
Cobalts with Manual Transmissions
I'm really interested in getting a cobalt to replace my current car when it dies (which seems to be very soon.) problem i have now is that since it would be my parents who pay for the insurance (I'm still in college), getting an SS seems out of reach. but i also really want a manual transmission.
so question is, do any non-SS models of the Cobalt have manual transmissions? Wikipedia seems a bit sparse on that subject. model years and trim levels would be appreciated.

ok, thanks for the anwser guys.
well, i'd want power locks and windows and such. i'd also reeeally like a sunroof. but its still gonna be cheaper than an SS and cheaper to insure too.

I had a 2.2 for 2 years before getting my 2.0, which I've had for a little over 2 years though. I loved the 2.2 when I had it, no complaints, was a decent car. Power of course can't compare, but that's a given. And believe it or not when I switched, my insurance actually went down beause of the extra safety features on the ss.
I have an 07 LT with a manual. Like everyone said, it's not the fastest thing out there, but it's not half bad for what it is. And there's a fair amount of aftermarket support for it, so you can make it quicker if you feel the need.
If you're going that route, avoid the SAI that came in some 06 and 07 models if possible. There's more information in the L61 section about it.

well, thing is, i'm a 19year old male college student on my parents insurance. i doubt i'd be that lucky.
plus, if i do get an LT, i'll probably take the LT badge off and add SS badges and the bigger SS spoiler (i actually like that big spoiler)
well, i'm going to try to get an SS when the time comes but if the insurance is more than my parents would be comfortable with, then i'll just have to get an LT and make it look like an SS

im still in college and i pay for my ss and my insurance... car payment is 320 insurance is 80....
you should be able to get the ss if thats the car you really want. just have the car insured under your parents... let either your dad or mom be primary driver...

im in college, car and insurance in my name, im 21 and have a couple speeding and a reckless driving ticket on my record. insurance is only $150 a month (full coverage) with ss manual red fully loaded.....call your parents insurance company and get a free quote from them before you settle for a different car. Remember you're prob going to be stuck with it for a while and you're going to want to love the car.
good luck

Oh please it's a trans combined with diff and axle to make said transaxle. Therefore we have a transmission. And there is no 2009 Cobalt Sport.

When looking at getting my Cobalt I was doing price comparison, the difference is minimal...
09 Cobalt Lt 300/mo + 105 ins
09 Cobalt SS 400/mo + 111 ins
With your age you might be looking at 180-220 a month range for insurance. My friend's redline runs him 145 for ins & he has a few speeding tickets, also he's 20.
