Possible new cobalt owner!

Hey guys, In the next hopefully 3 years, I will be getting a cobalt ss, Just wanted to see how your forums are, I currently drive a tiburon gt, and its..just...well slow haha, I only have in intake and cat back, but I need to stop my modding on this car, I love it, but I need more power

So guys, tell me about these cobalts:P i've read around 260 hp/tq, is that to the crank or wheels

What problems do they have, I know they have to have some

I'm torn between this or an srt-4, but I fear in 3 years srt-4s wont exist

also just feel free to chime in so I can get an idea of the activity on this site

It was supercharged, but that motor failed to meet emissions and the contract expired for '08 so they made a couple of things better on the car, took the motor out of the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky turbo roadsters, and voila... the fastest FWD production car 'round the Ring.

Well in general there are a ton of Cobalt variants with different engines and transmissions; but the performance Cobalts are simple, there is only one model the SS. There are two different engines and induction methods for Cobalt SS depending on the year of the car. 2005-2007 Cobalts have the LSJ motor with a supercharger attached, while the 08 and newer models have the LNF engine with a turbocharger attached. All the SS models have a 5 speed manual transmission, so hopefully you know how to shift, if not you can learn!

My tibby's a stick, so im assuming the Supercharged ones would be cheaper due to old-higher mileage, and something new out there? or would it be worth the extra pennies for a turbo one

You can buy a turbo Cobalt and be cool and have a bit better brakes, nicer wheels, better suspension... but a Supercharged can be had for $11k and a turbo swap will net you big gains.

Whichever way you wanna look at it.

Well if I get a cob, It be my first car that I make payments on, so I'd have to happy with it stock for a bit, or maybe just i/h/e, but we all know where I/H/E leads...

Depends if you get an SS/SC or SS/TC. The TC requires only about $1k to get you over 300whp and well over 300wtq. The SS/SC needs a Stage 2 kit and minor bolt-ons to equal a stock SS/TC, and either a blower or turbo swap from there to comfortably make over 300whp without using nitrous. The other bonuses of the TC are a slightly better sorted chassis, better axles, better looking wheels (in my opinion), Brembo brakes up front, and no-lift shift programming.

They're both good cars, a lot of it comes down to the price you can pay and your preference for superchargers vs. turbochargers.
