NLS Gives occasional engine light?
I rarely use NLS in first gear, just do to it being pretty rough and seems to make me peel out a bit when I do it. However, recently I have tried to do it a few times, maybe once a day for the last few days just to get better at it. Yesterday after doing the NLS in first for the first time in maybe a month, after the engine was warmed up, it gave me a flashing engine light after the shift, which went away shortly after maybe flashing a total of 10 seconds. When I did it at first I pretty much lost all power in 2nd, and it felt like it was starting to bog out on me. Once it did this I let off the gas and coasted for a little bit and drove normal the rest of the way with no problems. I didn't look at the boost pillar while shifting so I'm not even sure if i had a boost built up, but it sure didn't feel like it. I had this same engine light/bog out a long time ago when I did nls in 1-2 gear when I did it for the first time. After I saw that happen I was freaked out and didn't try to do it until about 2k miles later. Is this a serious problem or did I just not do a proper NLS when I shifted?(I almost never screw up on any other gears NLS, or even change anything from when I do it at other gears.) I shifted right at about 6k RPMs, is this the proper amount to do it at?(Gas fully pressed, shift under 1 second)
Read this thread, in particular the comments that Bill made with respect to how a misfire is triggered. I've also mentioned in here where I do it and never once have I had a problem; on the 1-2 make sure you have traction and that the traction control system is off; if you spin on the NLS the TC system WILL cut power and you WILL bog out. There's also a link in there explaining when it will and will not work, long story short if it bogs the car is doing it on purpose to save itself from what it thinks may be the potential for damage.

thanks for the quick response. I'm pretty sure I wasn't in TC off and I think I did peel out a little bit. I guess I just need to make sure not to peel out / not being in TC off mode.
The tach rises slower than the rpm's in 1st, you may have hit the rev limiter & had a misfire when it cut fuel & bogged. I had that happen a few times before I was tuned and raised the limiter out of the way a bit. I don't NLS anymore for fear of blowing up the tranny since tuned.
Np. The 1-2 is possible with TC on but it's entirely dependent on road surface, temperature, etc. I've yet to find a pattern as to how quickly TC will engage, in the winter it gave me 2 or 3 seconds of spin before throwing up the white flag and helping me out, on dry surfaces it seems to be less forgiving and kicks in far more quickly

thats exactly what happened to you...the traction control thing. its happened to me before as well. just dont nls from 1-2 with traction control on..
Happens to me all the time with T/C off. GM replaced the spark plug, the coil pack, the fuel pump and gave it a cleaning. Did the vacuum by-pass that a few guys on here mentioned and I haven't had a problem since. Could just be luck but only time will tell. Give it a try!
