Question Cobalt SS supercharged fuel/air ratio install

I just got my new 06' Cobalt SS supercharged and I want to install a fuel/air ratio gauge. Anyone got any suggestions on which one and where to locate it cleanly? Thanks!!

I would put it in the A-Pillar with the boost gauge.

Make sure it is a Wideband, I recommend the AEM. The narrowband is nothing more than a flashing light show.

Yea, I forgot about the airbags... And I don't mean to sound like a newb, but what's the diff between a wideband and narrowband?

the airbags dont make a differance, i can make a dual gauge pillar for you if you want, the pillars are the same for all the cobalt models, airbags or not, only difference is the stock boost gauge.... placing another gauge above it in that area will not affect the airbags at all, let me know, i have 2 stock pillars, and a dual pod ready to go on one of them, can be painted to match the car, or i can paint it the stock color for you, or i can order a left side pillar and make it smooth, and then paint them both the stock color, i have access to texture paint, but with the materials i use to secure the pod itself, it is hard to make the whole thing one texture, other than smooth.... pm for some details, and i can send you a pic of what mine looks like, without paint, it is all smooth and primed, and will be sprayed next week, i also put 3.5 inch speakers in each of them.... let me know either way

they will be painted arrival blue, and they are holding the stock boost gauge, kicker 3.5 inch speakers, and an autometer narrowband air to fuel..... for now anyway, till i get the money together for a wideband, it was a good deal so i couldnt pass it up

all you really need to know is that all cars equipped with an o2 sensor is a narrowband. it is simple and accurate enough to make the car not blow up and control emissions. a wideband o2 sensor is exceedingly more accurate and is only available through aftermarket. for a wideband, you will need a new wideband sensor (usually comes with a kit along with the gauge, wiring and a new bung), and you will have to have someone weld in the new bung to fit the wideband o2 sensor. a narrowband a/f gauge will just have a light that fluxuates from rich to lean all the time telling you nothing. a wideband will actually display the numbers of your air/fuel ratio. they can get expensive, but are a necessity if you are tuning. if you are not tuning, it is really not worth spending the $300 on one.

We have had good luck with Innovative, AEM and PLX.

AEM are on a short back order though.

If I were you, I'd also check out a Full Zeitronix Unit. It allows you to view Boost, EGTs and A/F Ratio (via wideband) without any pillar gauges and it keeps it very low profile. I have it and keep it right on my steering wheel and it's barely noticeable but perfect for driving and tuning. This is what the unit looks like:

When running boost, your a/f ratio mostly matters according to PSI.

No...

12s are fine under boost and 12 is rich.

The higher the number, the leaner. A usual scale is 9s - 21s (9s being extremely rich, 21s being extremely lean).
