Hi gang, does anyone knows how many HP the stock engine can take? I am about to make a few upgrades this next month that will take my car around 340 whp but I want to know what is the known hp limit with stock internals.

BTW my car is the LNF TC engine just in case

Internals are "fine" at that level, but the clutch will start complaining.

there are people doing over 400whp already on stock internals.

Not exactly, to make 500whp you would have to replace valve springs and external dump valve. Valvetrain starts to float at like 450whp I believe.

I would say that if you want to play it safe, don't push the stock parts past 425whp.....do some rebuilding and you could take that much higher.

Just remember that 400+whp in a FWD starts to get silly in a street car.

The internals are capable of alot of power. Id say over 500whp. Valve springs are a good idea if you are running that kind of power but not an absolute must. ARP studs are also a good idea with that kind of hp. Only thing I would worry about is the clutch..

People have been pushing far less technologically advanced engines much farther for much longer. Its actually falrly simple with an engine that comes from the factory turbo'd because typically we have stronger parts to start with.

Yeah, I realized I came off harsh, so I edited it to make it sound a bit nicer. Its 2am, and I'm getting pissed off at the tuning book I'm reading, because I can't go try anything because its 2am, lol.

Yeah, I am aiming for 340-350 on the dyno I normally dyno on (which read 219whp stock, LOL... conservative much?), and calling it a day. I am only at 247whp tuned (and running 13.0's to show how conservative the dyno really is). It will only get silly after that. I'll do that, then pick up a project car to work on...

Kinda thinking Mitsu Starion with a stout 800hp 4G63 on it...

A very simple general rule of thumb - you can double the horsepower (however you measure it) and usually maintain reliability (of the engine internals). Anything past that is free beer - drink at your own risk.

260BHP LNF x 2 = 520BHP LNF x 0.88 drivetrain loss = ~ 457whp.

Obviously the LSJ easily defeats this rule because it is hampered by the stock supercharger (or underrated) from the factory, and the L61 may arguebly be under this rule.

Actually that came from zzp performance who were one of the first ones to push the LNF to over 500whp.

LOL to mkriebs with your 449whp comment! Anyhow, something to consider is that the MUSTANG dynos are crap, bottom line. You can easily subtract 5-7% of error the wrong way with that and they are always posting up about their numbers taking into consideration elevation change ect...I would love to see Zooom bring his ride up here and see him get roasted at the track and hear him say "Well I am tuned for my elevation and thats why I lost, otherwise I would have won". lol

What? No. Mustangs read significantly lower, more conservative numbers. For example, I dyno'd stock at 219/219. So, right now, solely tuned I am only pushing 247/275 and run 13.05's. I'll throw down a dyno sheet anytime when someone asks, then say, hey, its super low, lets race and spank em.

My bet is ZZP would be pushing about 530 on a dynojet, if not higher.
