Exclamation When are they going to start production????? Why the delays???

Hey I'm from Wisconsin and I just ordered the Cobalt SS a few days ago. I ordered it in Sunburst Orange with the Sport Pkg. (Recaro seats and limited slip differential). All other models are currently for sale and you can take them home with you, but I have been told that production for the SS keeps getting pushed back. Now I am told that it may be another 8 weeks before they even start. Add another six weeks for them to actually make mine, and you're looking at almost four months. Can anyone tell me what exactly is going on that production keeps getting delayed?? Thanks!

Technically you only waited 2 months. I think a lot of it has to do with what you ordered if you order just a plain red ss/sc with no options you would probably get it a lot sooner...in fact there are ones that are sitting in dealerships as we speak. The fact that this guy added the recaro package makes a huge difference...have they even started making ones with the recaro package?...Im not sure but I dont think anyone on this board who has a ss/sc has it with the recaro package

The red SS S/C I saw that had the Recaro package was possibly a pre-production. It had a sold sign in the window, but if you look reallly closely you can see that it says display only not for sale....etc. I think the G85 package is definately worth the wait. The Recaros are so nice, way worth giving up colored inserts...

From Wisconsin, still waiting for production...

I understand that it might take awhile yet, and that's fine. What I don't understand is that many other states have the red SS Cobalts for sale and in showrooms. In Wisconsin, we don't even have them in the showrooms yet, which is strange. Unless it is the factory that is only closest to me that is waiting on production.

Thanks for all the info, I really appreciate it, but I've been told by my dealership that they can't get any right now, even ones without options...

Hang in there. No dealers have them out here either. Not even any red ones. West coast that is. But, they are ALL on their way in less than 30 days. They are sitting at the Ohio plant.

Thumbs down

Well thanks for all the info on this, personally, I think the dealership just lied to me to get the sale, because I was dealing with two dealerships, one told me that the SS would be coming in March to their showroom and they were taking orders, and the other told me mid-June/July. Of course I went with the earlier date, I mean, who wouldn't?? Now I just realize that I got totally screwed because they keep "pushing back" production dates, which i think is a load of ****, there was no "pushing back", it was always this late for this area. I should have went with the other dealership, I've boughten a few cars from there before, so they would have gave me one heck of deal on it, atleast I talked the other people down to $20,800 with the Sport Pkg. for an SS (including GM bucks).

Let me know what you think on what happened... thanks

Man, sometimes people really **** me off

Yeah man, GM is really starting to **** me off about that. They've been advertising since Fall of last year, what is it now? Oh yeah, only about six months later, wtf are they doing at the plants? If they were advertising, they should have been somewhat close to being ready to go...

Woot woot SS is coming! Oh wait ladies and gentlemen, let's push back the production dates again! No one will mind, right? Woot woot!

Anyways, don't get me wrong I know there have been PLENTY of other people who have been waiting longer than me since their order has been placed, I've been dead set since the first day I heard and saw them, and finally was able to place my order recently... so, all of you who have been waiting for the ages, don't be mad at my b!tching about waiting for so long... remember, they told me March they would be coming in... and I was very excited...

Are you still getting it Monday? I ordered Feb 20th and they told me ETA of 4-17-05! Can't believe you ordered last August and I ordered 2 months ago. Status of mine: completely built and ready for transport. Transport? Not on the train yet. Just sitting in Lordstown waiting. Arrival Blue SS/SC w/o G85 package.

The system is correct. I ordered in January and your getting yours before me too. Doesnt really matter to me but It really shouldnt be that way..I see why people get upset. I'm not all that happy either but I'll live. Indianapolis just got their first SS in on thursday a black SS with sunroof. It made me decide to keep my order( I was thinking about canceling it since it still hasnt even been given a production date) But I've waited this long might as well continue. I've got nothing to loose but time.
