Allocation
Allocation
Hey I am doing some searching to find out when my SS S/C will arrive. The arrival of these cars are allocation based on how many cavaliers were sold by the dealership. I found out my event code is still 1100 ( thanks to Marvin) and I am attempting to find out when the dealer will get an allocation for my vehicle, The dealer does not want to disclose this information to me, is there anywhere or anyone else I can contact to obtain this information. I have called customer assistance and it was no help, I was told "all I can find out is what your dealer has told you"
PS sorry for the long post

When did you order yours?
About a month ago, got the usual 6-8 weeks full knowing it was a longer wait time than that. I even told the dealer I expect to wait longer than that but he still said 6-8 weeks, still dont beleive it cause they don't even have an allocation for my car yet. Ill love it when I get it tho.
Allocation
This is my attempt to answer your question in general. A Chevy dealer could give you an accurate answer, and perhaps will. Understand, Allocation is a mystery but has enough common elements so as to be "somewhat predictable." Allocation is based on previous year sales of that model. Cobalts were not sold in a previous year but Cavaliers were, so the number of Cavaliers your dealer sold will give you an idea of the number of Cobalts that dealer will be offered. For the SS/SC, look to the number of LS Sports. Because the 2005 model year for the Cobalt will be less than a year, the number of cars allocated will be proportionally less. Corvettes, for which some dealers have an intense competition for allocation, will have an artificially long 2005 model year run so each eligible dealer will be offered an allocation on a one-for-one basis. Cobalts will end at the normal mid June, follwed by the annual two week shut down surrounding the July Fourth, after which 2006 production will commence. To add a curve ball, allocations are offered weekly and if a dealer forgoes an allocation for whatever reason, that allocation will be offered to another dealer. Big dealers will order stock to make sure they do not lose allocation and that is why we saw so many Cobalt SS/SC's dellivered to dealers while retail orders went unbuilt. Is there a better way to meet the consumers needs? I don't know but this is the system Chevrolet uses and those of us who drive GM and Chevrolet live with it.
Hope this answer, tho longer than your question, gives you some insight.
Personal caveat: I am not a dealer or saleperson. I have learned this because I buy more cars than a normal person should be allowed, but I guess the cars are my high so no more need be said.

Here's a question...........If you ordered an 05' SS at this time and it doesn't get built for whatever reason(and some people are still waiting from Jan) and the dealer won't tell you anything. Is it possible that the dealer could turn around in june and tell you that you'll have to get an 06'????????

It will be much more than the normal 2 week shutdown.
