my SS/SC with trailer hitch

Here's some pics of my car now that I got the trailer hitch on.

You can hardly tell it's there when the reciever isn't in it. The car feels a little bit more neutral too, which is a good thing.

Candian manual says no hitch on a SS/SC. I dont know why but that is what it says. careful with the clutch and engine overheating. that is my only guess.

IMO you can do it.... I just flip when I see a sports car with a hitch. first thing that comes into mind is get a truck. It just seems wrong..... to me.

Straight out of the US manual are the following quotes from operations manual -

Page 4-37
Towing a Trailer (Manual Transaxle)
Do not tow a trailer if your vehicle is equipped with a
manual transaxle.

4-38
Your vehicle can tow a trailer if it is equipped with an
automatic transaxle and the proper trailer towing
equipment. If your vehicle is not equipped as stated
above, do not tow a trailer. To identify what the vehicle
trailering capacity is for your vehicle, you should
read the information in “Weight of the Trailer” that
appears later in this section. But trailering is different
than just driving your vehicle by itself. Trailering means
changes in handling, acceleration, braking, durability
and fuel economy. Successful, safe trailering takes
correct equipment, and it has to be used properly.
That is the reason for this part. In it are many
time-tested, important trailering tips and safety rules.
Many of these are important for your safety and that of
your passengers. So please read this section carefully
before you pull a trailer.
Load-pulling components such as the engine, transaxle,
wheel assemblies and tires are forced to work harder
against the drag of the added weight. The engine
is required to operate at relatively higher speeds and
under greater loads, generating extra heat. Also,
the trailer adds considerably to wind resistance,
increasing the pulling requirements.

4-39
Do not tow when the outside air temperature is
above 100°F (38°C).
• Do not tow more than 1,000 miles (1 600 km)
per year
It should never weigh more than 1,000 lbs (450 kg). But
even that can be too heavy.

Actually, I do have a truck... but I'm at college right now, and it's sitting at home 530 miles away uninsured, and unregistered. I had to give it up for the time being to afford the SS.

I get 1.5 times the distance on the same amount of gas with this car.

I'm only really going to use it once to tow a trailer because I have too much crap up here at school to bring it all down in one shot, and I really don't feel like spending the extra 16 hours driving that would be necessary when I have to move my stuff down for my coop in the fall.

I apologize for being short with you, but my manual states that it's okay to tow with the SS. Even then, I'm going to rent one of those aerodynamic uhaul trailers, and take it easy with the car. It's going to be all highway anyway, so the clutch won't care too much, and I'm not worried about the car overheating at all.

I might eventually use it for a bike rack, or maybe to tow a 1 place jet ski if I ever get one.

As for the sports car thing... a little more than a month ago, I saw a porsche 911 turbo pulling a small trailer, and behind him was an RT/10 Viper with a motorcycle trailer, so if they are allowed to pull a trailer, so should I be.

I'm from canada, the 2006 book states SS manual's can tow. I think it is that GM wasn't sure when the 2005 book was made if the SS S/C would be able to tow or not.

And I think a hitch on a sports car is fine....why would I want to live with a truck (poor accleration, poor handling, poor fuel economy, poor ride, etc) 365 days a year when all I need to do is tow a light seadoo to and from my cottage twice a year?

Dark-FX - looks really good man, your lower bumper piece hides it more, I think I might have to get the lower trim piece off of a Pursuit GT to cover up mine more.

Where did you buy that from? I need to tow a uhaul trailer from Denver to Rapid City in July. Getting living room furniture from my Aunt who is PCS'ing to Buckley AFB. Cobalt will get much much better gas than the Jeep...plus it rides better, has A/C, and a working stereo.
