View Full Version : Supercharger Question!! ronstoppable 05-09-2005, 03:14 PM I don't know much about superchargers, but do they have upgrades and or stages for them? I know they have stages for turbo-chargers, but dont know about superchargers.. Thanks :cssNET: Jase 05-09-2005, 05:14 PM its the big thing talked about here right now there is some things you can do a) upgrade the supercharger with alot of modding b) buy smaller pulleys c) upgrade the ECU from the rumors flying around GM will release a stage of ecu reflash with a new pulley Speed Mafia 05-09-2005, 10:47 PM ronstoppable, I agree..Jase is right with a Roots Blower or a Centrifugal super charger they are very maintenance free... If you are looking at getting more boost then you run a smaller pulley (till you max that out then bigger blower), then there is a specific limit where the stock ECM and Fuel System and Ignition will need upgrading and then of course parts like rods, pistons, cranks, head work, exhaust, intake TB,...etc. Here is a website for different stages for centrifugal blowers and different stages as you would need per hp and torque needs and looks as well. Stage one is a basic model, satin blower, satin intercooler...etc Stage Two is polished blower, polished intercooler...etc Stage Three is bigger polished blower, polished intercooler, and chrome piping and more boost etc... This if for the ION 2.2 ecotec motors the Cobalt site will be coming up shortly but the ion kit fits fine the Cobalt with the 2.2 ecotec :-D But all in all Blowers have a cool sound, less heat, easier on parts, list goes on and on and in a manual you still get the sound of the booosshhhh (blow off valve) like turbo cars. Here is the website: http://www.speedmafia.com/cars/SportCompactsCars.htm The phone number is incorrect on this site as it is being changed to an 1-800.. really soon i hope! Thanks Kevin tiny 05-10-2005, 07:42 PM there are diff stage kits with SC's the roots blower is basically a turbo that runs on a pulley instead of exhaust gases zinner 05-10-2005, 09:15 PM Actually none of em can be called a supercharger until they provider boost over 14.7 PSI (1 bar). Until then they are all just blowers :) Speed Mafia 05-11-2005, 01:23 AM the C-1 and C-2 head unit can run up to 24psi max...he have done some snow mobiles w/cog systems running 20psi! freaking crazy! Also Tiny, the roots blower and Procharger/Vortech are way different then a roots style setup...roots are la screw setup and Vortech and procharger are like turbos except the turbines are spun by a belt...not exhaust and that is where turbos are more efficient BUt they produce allot of heat but with proper intercoolers and water/alk injection the temps can be dropped... Thanks Kev Can U Say SS 06-29-2005, 12:09 AM Does the ss have and air to liquid intercooler and kind at all Cam9730 06-29-2005, 11:03 AM there are diff stage kits with SC's the roots blower is basically a turbo that runs on a pulley instead of exhaust gases Maybe you are confused, a centrifugal supercharger is more similar to a turbo, except the exhaust side is replaced by a pulley. Thanks Kevin I may be a little confused but all of them say 60-70 % HP gains (I'm assuming this is 60 - 70 % of 145hp)....is that number cumulative from stage 1 to stage 3 or are the numbers just incorrect? I mean stage 1 would bring my LS to roughly 232HP if I'm doing the math correctly (which I'm prolly not it's Friday) and the price even though it's in USD really isn't unreasonable. Permafried- Bob T 09-04-2005, 10:22 PM I read about a supercharger(Greddy) for a Nissan 350Z that gave the 305 hp stock vehicle , boost from 1,200 rpm all the way up to the redline. Watching my gauge I am not in the "above 0" on the gauge for nearly double that rpm. The show went on to say they only tried 8,then 10, and finally 12 # of boost(they said all within safe limits for a stock engine) and other that an upgrade of the ecm and a new cat - back system the had achieved a 40% boost in HP and almost 50% boost in torque. Is this where the pulley size and such comes in ? What does this do to the longevity of the warranty and simply put , the life of the engine ? I am sorry if this is in the wrong area, feel free to either move it or simply delete it as it is just a hypothetical question. Thanks, |
