Anybody else got some engine noise since switching to Mobil 1? Sounds like piston slap and goes away after a minute or so.

Amsoil? The only truly independant site I've ever seen testing Mobil 1 vs Amsoil found it was safe to run Mobil 1 to 18k. The Amsoil only made it to 14k because it thickened from 5w30 to 15w40. Other than that, oil performance was similar between both brands.

Amazing the difference between what Amsoil's websites say and reality is.

my question is how an oil 'switched' from a 5w30 to a 15w40? obviously this means the viscosity increased, but that 30 to a 40? thats odd for sure. I hope the independant test was a little more scientific than timing how fast oil poured out of a bottle.

Let's see...oil sample taken every 1000 miles and sent to blackstone laboratories for analysis. Amsoil did slightly better than Mobil 1 in the testing but the slight amount can be attributed to engine break-in during the Mobil testing. Mobil 1 did not thicken like Amsoil did.

http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/stories/amsoil.html

What the tests prove is that both oils are great. But one is claiming ridiculously long change intervals.
