Money well spent

Whew!
well if anybody noticed a little while back i was asking opinions on what to do with some recent poker winnings.

ive done some looking around and heres what i came up with.
keep in mind i already have GM's stage 2

In order of importance(in my opinion)
1. Vibrant air filter from JBP. $35.00
2. Billet engine mount from ZZP $200.00
3. Header with down pipe combo from ZZP $515.00
4. Pulley boys 2.8 inch pulley $100.00
5. Colder spark plugs $40.00
6. Strut tower brace from JBP. $107.00

grand total before taxes $$997.00

the reason imposting this is for a few reasons.
1. Which plugs should i go with? one step colder? two? copper? iridium?

2. Any recomendations? If you have any of these parts whether you love 'em or hate 'em chime in here and let me know.

3. How will my GM flash react to all this modification? anybody out there running this or similar?

4. My calculations put me close to 300-280 hp when this is all said and done. My question is should i upgrade my internals now or do you think i can run this setup safely as is?

Any constructive help is appreciated so lets hear it.

I doubt you'll be anywhere near even 270 hp, so youll be fine.

Not to bash, just a learned observation from other SS/SC's

Edit: You'll probably be runnning pretty damn lean without upgraded injectors too

Like I said though, nowhere near 280hp, maybe 250-260 is what i'd expect. You're going to need alot more to get up there. I'd get an Intake at least, and maybe a full cat-back if you can afford it.

I've the 2.8 pulleyboyz with Stage II, NGK iridiums, Injen CAI, and a supertrapp muffler. Dynod @ 230 before 2.8 pulley and was running very rich about 10.0 to 1 in the higher rpms. I have yet to dyno Sence the pully but there is a noticable difference, car pulls very strong and supercharger screams. the Iridium plugs are the 7's one step colder and the car runs a little smoother sense install. Many here are running the coppers but I desided to go with the iridium for longevity. The stock plug is an NGK R so I trust the brand. From the Dyno numbers I have see own this sight it will take a lot more tuning and modding to reach 300 whp. There are people here that are tuned an running 2.5" pulleys that are still not a 300. But we all would love to find a simple solution to break that barriar. Good luck with the car man, If you deside to Use the 2.8 you want be disapointed. And with stage II you should be fine on the Air fuel Ratio.

Almost everyone I talk to recomends the coppers and I think one step colder should be suffice. They are only about $15 shipped from Cobalt-Addiction. They recomend the copper over the iridium or platinum because the iridium and platinums are a self cleaning meaning they burn hotter. You will have to replace the coppers more often but you will get better performance out of them.

plugs

yep you are all confirming what ive heard.

ive heard the coppers run colder but have a limited life span.

the irdium are more expensive so in the end i think ill go with copper and replace frequently.

which cat back?
magnaflow?
corsa?

i would go with the corsa touring i believe, you should do a search on here and find sound clips and find out which one you perfer.. the corsa is a little more exp. but i understand its well worth it.. if i had the money that is what would be in mine...

If you're looking for performance get the Corsa Sport

I'd go w/ magnaflow. The corsa sounds better, but for around $200 more, i'm going w/ magnaflow. Mine isn't as deep as I'd like it to be but the hp gains are all similar and it sounds a hell of a lot better than stock. You don't hear the exhaust at WOT anyway because our supercharger screams so loud.

exhaust

for me im looking for performance.

ive heard them before and it seemed to me that the magnaflow was more subdued and the corsa a bit throatier and louder.

for me though, i dont care what it sounds like only what it gets me hp and trq wise.

anybody have a dyno before and after of either of these exhausts?

by the way thanks for all the great comments!

NEW QUESTION

You won't find that big of a difference at all between exhausts. If you have the money and spending the extra $200 on a corsa will not make you have to spend less on something else then I would get the corsa. I got the magnaflow because I needed money for my intake and stuff. I'm not disapointed though.

im going to say you will be in the 260/240 range... you must remember you cannot just add hp numbers..... hell some of those things will only give you tq which still is pretty awesome. Also for exhaust the best money spent is the GMPP exhaust. At my michigan meet I heard the Corsa, Borla, Magnaflow and GMPP. IMO and about 10 other dudes the GMPP was much deeper than the others. Way cheaper. Also it was co-designed by BORLA with tuning done by GM.

Here is my 2 cents worth. Only buy the engine mount for looks. Personally, I bought a pint of base coat/clear coat in arrival blue and when I had my supercharger off, I cleaned up the casting and painted them body color. I took the motor mount you mentioned and painted it body color. Previously, I had powder coated the spark plug cover, but I am thinking I will take it back off and paint it body color.

Good choice on the header and downpipe. The fact of the matter is that the main restriction in our entire exhaust system is in the manifold and downpipe (about 8 kPa). The rest of the system from the dp back is about 3 kPa. I recommend buying the exhaust for sound, not performance. Also, I recommend the TOG header as opposed to the ZZP header because of the coating. The TOG is ceramic coated inside and out. That is important for long term appearance.

Regarding the brace, I have one that I make and sell for $80, that is made from T6065 aluminum (aircraft grade). The cross bar is 3/4" square 1/8" wall tubing. The end brackets are 1/4" thick aluminum plate. It is aluminum welded and polished to a nice shine.

Yes, I do aluminum polishing.

Mike
