View Full Version : Intake and Exhaust
would you see more gains from your exhaust if you have an aftermarket intake on your car? Rather than just an exhaust
i just ordered the weapon r intake and will order the gmpp soon since the gmpp exhaust doesnt really have good gains im thinking increased airflow from the intake will help the exhaust perform better.
juststickit124 07-13-2006, 03:16 PM Why gmpp?
distillion 07-13-2006, 03:21 PM gmpp does the job for me, felt the but ponies when i installed it.
juststickit124 07-13-2006, 03:22 PM I figure Corsa or Magnaflow would still give better gains, unless price is a concern
g5mike 07-13-2006, 03:40 PM GMMP rules:cssNET: and sounds great too.

Elaborate.

yea i cant really afford the Magnaflow or Corsa...plus the whole warentee thing...i figure if i need to bring the car in for service i could just take the intake off which is alot easier than taking the exhaust off
IonNinja 07-13-2006, 06:16 PM if you do feel any gains it'll be from the intake moreso than the exhaust.
in my experience exhaust is about 95% sound.

I think the Magnaflow is priced about the same as the GMPP, and the exhuast is probably easier to take of then the intake. 2 bolts and a couple hangers, and the o2 sensor and it's out. The intake you have to take the wheel off, under gaurd, wheel well, AF sensor, couple bolts, couple houses, and then try to shimmy it out of there. A bunch of my friends happened to all get exhuast tickets this month, we changed 5 STI exhuast (same principle) and it took 15 mins to get it off and on, the Intake for all cars is about an hour if you know what you're doing. Plus per the moss-magnuson act, they can't deny warranty is the defect is non-exhuast related. I'm not doubting the GMPP is a good exhuast, just some might be a little better. Just my $.02 (where the heck is the cent sign?)
edit::: oh just looked you ordered the weapon R, that's a Short Ram intake isn't it? SO that's super easy to take off.

Why would you take off your intake to take the car in for service? It doesn't affect your warranty unless you modified some part of the car.

Because the dealer will say that whatever broke (more so if something on the intake or engine) was affected because of the aftermarket non-GM approved intake you had installed. Its a bad spot. They will try to prove the intake broke it and you have to somehow prove the intake didn't break it.
forcedgminduction 07-18-2006, 04:15 AM to answer the whole piont of the thread, yes intake and exhuast together will make more power than one by itself. if more air comes in, the more that has to go out. it wont be much more. there is no one part that will give power by itself (except exhaust, which doesnt really add power, just throttle response). your intake makes more air flow into the engine, making th ecu add more fuel and spark.
sshaner 07-18-2006, 04:29 AM i have magnaflow, it sounds and feels good

I don't know how much different the cobalt is, but I can rip off my RL's entire bumper and take off my intake, and reinstall the bumper in well under 20 min. No wheel removal, and no wheel well removal.
