Radio Antenna

Can someone let me know if the radio/stereo antenna on the SS is built into the rear window, is a retractable antenna or is permanently "extended". I have an SS supercharged arriving, likely next week, and was wondering since I really don't like permanent antenna "wips"

No, its a big retarded standard antenna. They should have made it a shorty! And permanently extended.

Would have led to cleaner asthetic lines in my opinion if it was built into the rear window, or perhaps a small whip on the roof like some VW's and Audi's. Not a tall "fixed" antenna that looks rather ugly and is prone to vandalism/damage.

Yeah, GM really cheaped out when it came to the antenna.

I would be interested to know if you could replace it as well.

What people don't seem to realize here though is every car has things that could haev been better. There are a handful of things on the SS including the antenna.

Now if they changed all fo that the starting MSRP would go up to a different pricing point and it would cause the fully loaded to be over 26k

This is the reason why, its still a budget car

well a perfect solution would be to shave it completely and then run it along the frame, this makes the whole car a antenna. problem solved and the way this is done is by get a extention for the cable and run it down to the frame attach the atenna there by tacking it. then you take a piece of sheet metal cut it to size and form it to the body so it follows the lines. weld it on and smooth it out, prime and paint your done. im not sure about bondo but if you could stay away from it would suggest just primering it then painting but i mayself have not done this.

I have XM radio, so I have the small stub antenna on the back of my roof in addition to the normal one. It's too bad they couldn't do a combo antenna.
