Cobalt SS/SC or tC?

I will be purchasing my first car in a few months and I am torn between the Scion tC and the Chevy Cobalt SS/SC. I know the tC would be much better value and I would be able to buy a brand new tC. The cobalt ss/sc, is much faster and would be funner to drive, but I would have to purchase a used one with like 30k miles on it. Keep in mind my bro has a tC that would be kinda wierd gettin a car just like him.

So let me hear you honest opinions on which one I should get.

Get the SS S/C, it's a much better car. GM wasn't screwing around on this when they built it. It got me out of my Sentra SER Spec V, and I didn't think anything would.

As much more fun as the SS/SC is, I would not buy a used one that someone else has beat up for 30k.

If you want a fast car out of the box, get a ss/sc, tc's can be made fast with turbo, but with the cost of turbo on a tc, with install tune, and what not, you have a ss/sc right there, the cobalt can also be made faster than it already is, i was in the same boat, i wanted a fast car out of the box, not a 15sec car out of the box, and have to spend couple k just to get it into the 13s.

My friend bought a tc a year ago. I got to drive it; its a nice car. However, I think a SS/SC goes way beyond that, so get the SS/SC.

Yup, I can almost gurantee that car has been ragged to ****. If you are honestly comparing the two then just get the tC.

Umm, You came to a SS/SC forum and asked if the tC is better than the SS/SC...

Honestly, you are probably going to get a biased response.

IMO as a non SS/SC owner, I like it alot better and feel that it is a superior performing car and a tC could ever muster...

Buy the SS/SC and forget about the tC..

I always chuckle when people ask if they should get "car a" or a SS/SC. It's funny.

Hmm well lets see, here is my biased opinion. Get the SS/SC.

I agree with the biased opinions. If you want to see the other side of the fence visit scionlife.com. Obviously I have an SS/SC but my better half bought a tC, one of those release series. Honestly, for the money, its a great car. The RS series comes with Alcantara seats which can't touch anything we have, sound system is about the same, sunroof is really cool even if they are having problems with them, and of course a little less power. The thing I don't like about the tC is the 2AZ motor Toyota put in them. Absolutely garbage. If you plan on going forced induction with them, figure on toasting a bearing in no time. A few over on scionlife.com did, most forced induction, at least one I know isn't and had the same problem. Even Sport Compact Car magazine turned a bearing after adding Toyota's own supercharger.

I'd say if performance doesn't matter, go tC, but if you plan on more than just a few bolt ons go with the SS/SC.

When I was looking at a new car the SS was actually cheaper once you put all the options on the TC

I recall there is a Thread of a review on 4 sport compacts and the TC ranked low in performance. I can say I like the styling of the TC, but even if you make the car faster; SC or Turbo, which ain't cheap, your still left with a car that won't handle as well as an SS/SC. But, what is your main objective? A level of Performance or nice transportation? If you are considering a SS/SC used, be very careful of what you are looking at.(take along someone that knows what to look for)

My dad wanted to look at a TC before I bought my ss/sc, but after I picked out all the options that I wanted to make it be as close to my car, it was cheaper for me to get the ss/sc. Plus, performance out of the box is definately better in the cobalt than the TC, but maybe I am biased like everyone else.

You might want to try another option, I almost got the tc comin from the toyota family but I test drove the ss 2.4 version and I liked it better than the TC

That's kind of a dumb comparison really, if you're a young guy like most of us. The SS/SC has very few options available. The tC on the other hand, has a **** load of dealer installed amenities you can get, and most of us would want some of those.

I've priced out a tC, with a few nice options (ie, sunroof, spoiler, stereo, exhaust tip, wheels, slight body kit, shift knob, etc etc), not even half of them and it rolled into 20k.

You could easily pimp out a tC with all the options and run it higher than a SS/SC, which is just dumb.

tC if youre cheap and dont care about a single extra on the car, otherwise SS/SC.

Asking at a cobalt site of course you are going to get biased answers but that just means that they all love their cars, also when buying a car you might want to think about if there are any scion dealors close to where you live, because if the car has to be brought in it might be a problem if thats far away.
