Do you have $10? Go to home dpot or lowe's. Buy an itrem called gutterguard which is like $6 for 5-6 sheets. It looks 100% like "real" mesh inserts and is 1/4 the price for 6 sheets. One sheet is all you need. It will fill in the lower opening perfectly and you can secure it w/ zip ties tot he clips that hold the bumper on. 4 clips on the bottom and two on the top of the opening. Looks really good painted black btw. I'll post a pic later cause I need to go to work. I knwo someone on .com took my tip and posted a pic and loved it.

Thanks guys.

So 1 sheet of gutterguard will fit or do I need to trim it? Not a big deal really I guess.

I think I would rather go that route because the ones on C/A are a little to Bling for me.

Did you paint them matte black or gloss. I think matte would look good.

I helped a buddy put a grille on his car (mesh style) and we painted it semi-gloss black and it looked very good.

How do you think any other mesh grille on the market, or any grill other than stock, came to be? Is there a difference between doing it yourself or paying someone else to do the R&D? I say looks, not method, determine the flavor of rice.

I had a nice mesh grill painted black and installed so it wouldn't budge a hair. Someone around my house decided they wanted it more than me though. Grrr...

i wasnt hating anyone for doing it, and im thankful for the few who invinted the grills. but please do it right if you are going to do it that way, if you do not, it will be rice x3. but good luck and sendsome pics on here.

Mike from michigan stopped at my place and we compared my gutterguard to his $25 mesh piece. They were 100% THE SAME! Same look, size ofholes, shape of holes. Not one thing was diff. 'Cept mine was painted metallic black to match my bowties/headlights. Rice or not, $5 is better than $25 for same thing.

I say that if there is a nice black plastic grill available from GM to match the upper grill (which there is) then why not just go for that? Gutter guard is maybe kind of okay as like a last resort if you have like no other options... I really can't figure out the 2.4L guys who actually remove their nice black plastic grills to put that stuff on their cars...

EDIT - Okay, I guess $60 as opposed to a few bucks could be a determining factor...

I wanted a little more protection for my daily driver's components so I went ahead and picked up the GM lower plastic grill, http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...P1319C144.aspx
pops right in with no drilling or cutting. I'm happy with it.

Mine looks nice and clean. Most people that see it ask where I bought it. I'm very picky about cleanliness and that's why I made the how-to to make sure that people don't make something that looks like it belongs on a Rice-mobile. There are more pics in the How-to thread that Tomtwtwtw posted above.

Thanks, it's the same stuff that JC Whitney sells for $20-$30 for a 24"x48" sheet or APC sells for $8-$12 for a 8"x32". I spent a little over $6 for a 36"x60" sheet at Home Depot. And another $5 for black rubber undercoating at Ace Hardware to paint/protect it.

I saw that Street Scenes makes upper grills, and a lower air dam grill. But I haven't seen any pics yet. I had S.S. grills on my Grand Prix, and loved them. I tried to get some pics when I wrote to them , but they never responded. I may get them anyways when I have the money, they only have one main mesh style they use, and i like it.
