Gold Bowtie

Hey everyone,

Just a general question, it's an opinion question actually. I've noticed quite a few posts from people who hate the gold bowties on their Cobalts and they're asking questions on how to remove them or change them to black. Why? I'm just curious and not passing judgement, I think they kinda look handsome and add to the car (**winces and prepares for the onslaught**). Either this thread will die quickly because it's boring or it'll light up because people have strong feelings one way or the other.

Either way my curiosity will be satisfied.

Cheers,
Keith

A few years ago, there were bowties of several other colors - red, blue, silver, etc. A nice subtle swap we used to do with Berettas was to upgrade to the red-outlined bowtie from the GTU model; looked much cooler than the base bowties. Anyway, at some point they decided the gold brushed-aluminum bowtie would be the "official" bowtie color. Maybe people don't like it because it looks like it belongs some old ladies Caprice.

They where blue from 00 to 03 then for 04 they went to the gold.
But if you look back to the 60's and 50's they were gold aswell.
And I don't mind the one on the front but the one on the back is too big!
So I took them both off and put ss logos instead

I am with you--gold bow-ties are good. I bet you don't like this silly trend of de-badging either?

Niether do I ----I think I am the only one on here

I enjoy looking a little different from the ever increasing number of econo-box Cobalts around here. I mean, why do we modify our cars? To go a little faster, to handle a little better, to look a little different. It's all about individuality

Besides, there is nothing else gold on my car so it just doesn't flow. My CF bowtie looks awesome and just seems to suit the car better. No complaints.

As far as the "silly debadging trend" goes, people have been debading cars for a very long time. I hardly think it can be referred to as a trend just because it's gaining in popularity. I personally think my car looks 100x better now, and it will look 1000x better once I get the spoiler holes, trunk lock and antenna properly shaved.

What fun would it be if everyone modified their cars the same way?

I painted my bowtie b/c I have a yellow car, so the gold just doesn't go w/ the paint job and I have black rims, so the entire car was yellow and black except for the badges, so I painted the badges black and painted the lettering black on the rear end. For me, it was just to keep the color the same throughout the car.

I for one didn't like the gold look on the sunburst paint so I painted my front badge sunburst and I took the rear bowtie off. I think it looks great. To each their own though.

Thanks!

I don't think debadging is silly, but I wouldn't do it myself. I dunno, when I get something rarely do I modify it, I like to keep it as is. But, that's just my taste -- just like the rest of you have yours.

Thanks for entertaining the question. I learned something I didn't know before.

I'm keeping every single badge on my SS/SC. No reason to hide that it's a Chevy. I think thats why some people remove the badges but I could be wrong.

I painted it because, it doesn't stand out as much, and I personally think it looks a lot cleaner.

Thats what mine looks like

that is true but no matter what year Chevy used to put the RED bowties on anything that was sporty like the Z24's Z34's and of course camaro's the gold bowties are fine for other cars but they should have used something a little more sporty for all of their SS models

what do u guys think?

and it doesn't have anything to do with not liking the bowtie or not wanting to rep chevy cuz i LOVE the bowtie and have a chevy banner on my windshield but that just me!

for awhile yes (most sport compacts, IMO) but you don't see any debadged 69 Camaro Z/28s! They even put the dealers sticker (or badge) back on!

i hate it. i painted mine using the same paint as the car. laser blue metallic. the gold just doesnt mesh with the look of my car. it all depends on what you want and how picky you are.
