Hello everyone I somehow managed to get gum on the exterior (paint) of my car. It appears as if it was not deliberately done because of the placement and the appearance of the gum. It is right above my front tire side, about an inch from the tire to be exact. It seems that I ran it over and it stretched somehow onto the outside of the car. I am some what worried to even attempt to remove it now though, because I was using my fingers and it gets worse and worse. Anyone have any suggestions? I thought about trying to use ice and harden it, however, I was not sure if it is going to scratch and remove the paint once it gets hard. Thanks again in advance for any suggestions.

 

When I was a small child my mother used peanut butter to get gum out of hair. The peanut butter melts the gum. I had really long hair. It works! Plus I do not see peanut butter doing any thing to the paint. It is worth a shot.

 

Thank you vkhamlin, I honestly thought about trying peanut butter as well. I had heard before about PB being used to get gum out, so I might have to just give it a shot. I better make sure I have creamy and not the chunky stuff, I wouldn't want the nuts to scratch my paint. Ok, so thanks again. I think I am going to try it.

 

If that doesn't work just try some tar and bug remover. Take it to the car wash and manually use the pressure washer and keep applying coats of that stuff until it comes off.

 

Recommend you re-wax the car after you get the gum off...some removal products will strip wax finishes...

 

I just had this happen to me, I used a clay bar and quick detailer spray by meguirs. Worked great

I've used ice to freeze and then break/chip it off of hard surfaces before.

 

O gotcha, a clay bar is used to prep paint before waxing, removes surface debris. You can pick one up anywhere like pep boys or auto zone. It will be in the wax isle. hope this helps
