Did something very cool today...

Oh what a day. Got to work and there it was.. My SS/SC finally was on the front lot about to be driven off the transport truck. I got the keys from the driver, got the advisor to get the ticket written up and did the predelivery inspection. Then washed it myself, filled it with gas and drove it home. Now i guess I need to buy it! haha

Driving impressions...
Oh this things wants to go fast. Trying to break it in properly but it begs to be driven hard! On the way home every kid in a ricer would pull up, rev and want to race. It handles like no other car and very smooth. The engine is a little ricey sounding and doesnt make alot of torque below 2000 rpm but comes alive hard over 3500. I think my cavalier z-24 is a little faster off the line and the 2.4 has more torque feel untill the boost gets over 8 psi on the cobalt (then its all over with, cavalier eats dust).

I guess im now in the official SS/SC club!!!

Are you kidding? I had a '99 Z24 with the 2.4 as well. I feel like the SS has more torque all around expect for possibly between 1-2K RPM. If you punch it in first gear in the SS, you get large amounts of torque. How can the Cavalier be faster off the line? There's enough torque to spin both wheels away leaving double streaks in the G85 SS with LSD. The ones without LSD can light the tires up even longer. The only way that Z24 would take off before the cobalt is because the guy in the SS punched the throttle too hard and didn't get traction!

I'd say the older Z24's with the 3.1L engine could take off quicker than the SS before the 2.4 could.

I think Im gonna trade my 2.2 in for a 2.0, maybe in 2007 when my credit is built up through this 2.2.

Wow, lucky you!

Being my first standard it still makes me laugh when I manage to chirp the tires in both first and second (and I'm driving the LS). I as well have been trying to break it in nicely but I'm really not too sure how to go about it. I've got it up to 2200km now and tend to switch gears no higher than 3k but I'm not sure if I'm going about it the right way. None of my friends believed me when I told them it was the car's fault I was speeding and not mine, it just wants to go go go...I nearly gave my buddy a heartattack when he went to pass me on an empty highway and I dropped to fourth and pulled away from him even when he had a headstart !

Congrats on the new car, try to be nice to 'er but the Cobalt overall seems to make this difficult not to mention the number of people wanting to race you off every light .

On a side note, I was hoping maybe you could give some pointers on how you're going about breaking in your car since as I said this is my first standard and I'm totally clueless .

I ordered it back in march. I now have 200 miles on it and loving every mile. Im amazed how good the mileage is (showing 27 - 28 mpg on the display). Ive been driving it pretty easy and not going above 4000 rpms though for break in. the temps were cool this after noon and OMG does this thing love to pull. Hard to drive below 65 mph.

Cobalt SS/SC and loving every mile
