Pontiac G5?!?!?

WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!!?!!??!! Why take a chevy and slap a new front upper grill on it and change the tail lights, just so you can try and resell it as a different car??? SOMEBODY NEEDS TO BE SHOT IN THE DESIGN DEPARTMENT! Or maybe they should grow some ***** and come up with something that is different.

http://www.pontiac.com/g5/gallery.jsp

This is why I am going into the automotive design field...

Are you guys special? They already have these in production and they look better and have better finish than a Cobalt. That grill makes a huge difference.

wow... you guys need to be caught up on the news...

the G5 has been on sale in canada for a while now... and they brought it to the US to fill a gap in Pontiac's lineup (read, no Sunfire)... look on the bright side... more "cobalts" on the road... more aftermarket support for everyone.

What can I say, between College and playing with my Cobalt, I don't have much time to read news. Plus, I haven't seen or heard anything about them until tonight. I agree more aftermarket support, but it is nice to see a company actually get creative from time to time. And who says they're better than a Cobalt?

Check the rims, those are stock, dont tell me you would not like those on your cobalt we also get a nice full rear lip the ss/na does not, white faced guages, and of course once again the RIMS

It's a sweet looking car, but I wouldn't trade my Cobalt SS/SC for nothing.

The g5 GT is the same as the 2.4 ss not the 2.0

Once you're actually in the automotive design field, you'll really understand why the G5 isn't that different from the Cobalt.

Until then, I'll tell you why. When they axed the Sunfire/Cavalier, the G5 was to take the Sunfire's place in Mexico and Canada. The US was getting only the Cobalt.

With the relatively small number of G5 to be built for Canada/Mexico, only minor changes were made to the car as they won't turn enough of a profit to do more.

In 2006, Pontiac dealers in the US found that they were losing customers that wanted a small car and didn't like the Vibe as the entry level vehicle. So they put pressure on GM for a car.

The G5 is the stopgap solution for 2007.

You'll see the two will be differentiated more for MY2008 since there should be enough G5's being sold to justify the cost.

From what i have seen up here in canada the G5 GT is beating the SS N/A by a long shot for various reasons (and will probably follow in the US):

- The GT looks better then the SS N/A
- People that cant really afford the SS/SC usually have the G5 GT as their 2nd choice
- people pick the G5 GT over the SS/NA becuase if they want an SS they want it to be the top model (supercharged)
- and the big one i see is....a lot of people see a huge difference in the cars look IN PERSON and not just a "pontiac grille and different rearend stuck on a cobalt" like so many people say.

i get nothing but compliments about my GT even from SS/SC owners about how good the car looks.

I have no problem with 2 brand sharing a platform it keeps prices down. The thing that bugs me about it is when the 2 cars look so similar. There are some differences but not enough. The Cavalier and Sunfire looked nothing alike and to the average person out there they were different cars. Pontiac should have gone with more of a "Hot Hatch" styling.
