In all honesty who doesn't fully expect this kind of thing from a major manufacturer? This is a smart thing to do, it saves money on R&D and increases the part base for interchangeability. GM's been doing it since the beggining of time and I like it. More GM's on the road means less rice burners tearing up the streets with their crazy ass driving.

Totaly agree! In Canada Pontiac out sells chevy and the g5 sales really beat up on the cobalt sales,Yes the cobalt has been around 3 years now in the states, but in Canada the pontiacs are what most are buying, the attitude toward the G5 gt that Im seeing in this thread is because some of you dont know that the car has been out for a while now. I keep seeing these holy crap g5 threads, do your research before posting such threads as this, because to me, the starters of threads like this seem like they are not up to speed in the automotive world

Ok the G5 is alavilble with a 2.2 or 2.4 so I don't see it killing Cobalts left and right. Its the same freaking car with the same drive train! Its like when people said the Sunfire could kill a Cavi only problem was they were the same cars!

I don't see a G5 being any faster then a Cobalt of the same class. 2.2 for 2.2 and 2.4 for 2.4 same car.

Sure it looks good but it is not any faster, sorry.

The new Pontiacs are sexy cars IMO. Before I decided on the Cobalt a G6 was very high on my list of things to do.

Its a good thing we have you Jackalope. There's just no replacement for an enthusiast behind the counter at a stealership. I get better information from the techs and salesmen on this web site than I could get at any stealership around.

I always wondered why that was....

Pontiac is an Indian name - Were the Pontiac tribes located up in Canada? I assumed they were a Michigan tribe, but I may be jumping to conclusions since the Pontiac car company was based there.

I've seen various Pontiacs in Canada that we never got in the US, like the Firefly (same as a Geo Metro) and the Tempest (same as a Corsica). And many others in the 60s.

Yes thats true BUT these are GM wheels and are tested to a much higher standard then aftermarket wheels are. With aftermarket wheels you ned to worry about load ratings and run out abd such, but with GM wheels you know your getting a whel that is at least a direct replacement for the factory ones.

No I'm not saying all aftermarket wheels are junk but with these you know what your getting.

BTW, that price is dealer list cost GM parts Direct may be cheaper.

I never knew that, so alot of aftermarket rims just are not as good, I also heard that the gm slotted rotars are better than AM rims

YUP YUP!! Its a much bigger problem with trucks and vehicles that get heavy loads but the problem does still exist in cars too.

If the G5's were aval. in the US when I got my Cobalt, I would have got a G5. I wish I would have known they were coming over here, I would have waited. I love my Cobalt, but I've always liked pontiac's styling. And to those who say they copied a Cobalt, the cars came out at the same time, they just wern't aval. in the US.

I'm surprised people here believe that GM doesn't rebadge their cars for their different divisions. The only car I can think of that don't have a sister car is the Corvette. But Pontiac did want a Corvette sister back in teh 1970's [called the Banshee], but GM said no.

Here's a list of every cross-platform vehicle GM has made since the 80's.
