Hey everyone, I was just wondering what is the smallest diameter SC pulley that people have seen out there?

 

I don't have a SS/SC, I have an LT, so don't take this as gospel. I think the smallest you can do is 2.8 without modifying the blower. If you machine the nose of the blower housing I think you can go to 2.5 or something close.

Edit: Search for "machine blower" or somethig similar and you should find it on here.

 

ZZP makes a 2.6 that can be used without machining. Pulleyboys has a 2.4" pulley

 

I have a 2.4" but havent put it on yet.

 

zzp has a 2.6 that you can use with out moding your blower

 

ZZp also has a 2.35... but refuses to sell it to us

We have down to a 2.35 that would work on the Cobalt but after dyno testing we've concluded that trying to make more boost than 18psi will cost you more than you gain. So if you are seeing 17-18 psi, look to do more mods before dropping in pulley size.

 

So you're basically saying it's pointless till you can move enough air through the head to drop boost pressures down enough to make that small pulley use less hp... Got it, and thanks!

You're still gonna loose power if what he's saying is accurate though, and looking at the 2.5" dynos, I have no reason to doubt him... it's the boost pressure + rpms that = hp loss... so if meth injection would work, and if it was heat alone that was costing all the power, then an ice box would work too. As would real cold weather... I think he's saying that it's the parasitic loss in addition to the heat....

I just put on the ZZP 2.7 and I had to machine the snout for it to turn properly.
I was pissed that they (ZZP) put false info on their site.

 

It seems to be about 70/30 for those that fit and those that dont. Even the ones that don't only need a minor clean up job to work correctly...

That is correct. Weonly needed to take of a tiny bit. But If we didn't have a dremel handy, I would have been screwed. I just think that should be addressed in the info given on the site.

 

Methanol would definetly reduce the power loss.

You're thinking of a single gear dyno pull. What I'm thinking with the 2.35-2.4 is building that boost and creating torque sooner. The peak HP may not change, but after upshifting you'll be creating more torque and hence better times.

This is just IMHO though. I would love to see a dyno with a 2.35 or 2.4 with or without methanol/water injection.

 

Now this may be a stupid question, does a smaller pulley cause the belts to slip?

 

zooomer...why not just put the pulleys up..i been trying to get a straight answer from u gys as to whether your 2.35 AND 2.4 would fit. I wanted to try it with and without meth injection since i already have 2.5 dynos done

 

Really depends on how small you go. My 2.7 does not slip with only the adjustable tentioner (from Cobaly-Addiction) set on the second setting. In my oppinion if you want to keep your car as a daily driver and want to play it safe, then stick with 2.7 or above.
