Arrow My Story of the Cobalt SS...pics now posted!

Anyways, so I this ongoing problem for awhile now... I wanted the Cobalt SS, ordered it, and then it was time to play the waiting game. I waited and waited. Pretty soon it was past the point where they would no longer continue producing the '05 models, and would change over to the '06. After trying different possibilities to try to get my order accepted, like dropping the g85 and changing the color from orange to blue so then I could atleast get the matching seats since I couldn't have the Recaros, there was still no luck and there was going to be "a longer delay" due to some problems I don't remember anymore.

I needed a car before the end of summer before I left for college, so I had a big decision to make. But I decided to wait it out and hopefully hear some good news soon. A couple of weeks later, I got the phone call. The dealer I had been working with told me that there were going to be more problems with getting the car. He actually offered me back my down payment, to refund me my money and cancel the order because he did not think that I would have the car before the end of the summer. Obviously it isn't something you hear very often from a car salesman.

I told him that I would give him a call back within a few days to let him know my answer. A couple of days later I decided to go out car shopping and decided to test drive the '06 Mitsubishi Eclipse just for the fun of it. I loved the car, I was definately sold. Within the week I bought it and was able to bring it home a few days later. I also canceled the order for the SS.

Now, to get to my main point...

After work one day a couple of weeks after I took home the Eclipse, I checked my voicemails and one was from my Chevy dealer. He wanted to know if I was still interested the the Cobalt because he was checking something and saw that my ordered car was actually in production and would be at the dealership within a few weeks. Figures that would happen, just weeks after I bought the Eclipse!!! Oh well, I am happy with it though. Hopefully everyone who owns a Cobalt SS is very happy with their decision too!

lol that sucks, hope you enjoy the eclipse though, it looks like a nice car.

I would imagine some people on here are curious about it, including me. Could you possibly write a short review on the 06 eclipse?

Yeah I'll try to have one written within the next couple of days or so, I'll clean it up and post some pics too. It's a pretty nice car, and it's about the same price too (when there's no big GM discount going on!). I really wish that I would have been able to get the GT, but money doesn't grow on trees. The 260 something HP would have been pretty nice, but I guess I can settle with 162...

Yeah the GT is pretty powerful. If you ever turbo'ed your GS I'm sure you could make similar numbers. I can do a quick rough calculation...

If you boosted 9psi with an intercooler and 92 octane fuel you should make 264hp at the wheels according to: http://superchargersonline.com/hp_calculator.asp

The site is for supercharger applications but it's still based on the product both SC's and Turbo's make, boost. This number could be completely off however, because no engine runs the same as another manuf's, this is just a rough estimate.

i know how you feel
there were no SS's in my city
i had to go through hell just to get a base manual black cobalt
and there were 0 manual sport coupes available for me
then i finally found a black manual sport coupe which is what i wanted from the beginning
then a week after i buy it, there are literally 12 SS's that arrive on the lots, and 10 are still sitting there

I'm glad you're happy, Man! I went through the same hell you did.. Almost exactly. I've been delayed about four or five times since February for my Cobalt SS, and I STILL don't have it here yet. They say it's sitting at the port waiting to be shipped, but I have no clue what it's waiting on.

Orange Cobalt SS SC, G85 right? Yeah... I don't think they ever made any, because I sure as hell can't get my hands on one. And it's already at the port so it's too late to tell them to change the color... Oh well. Congradulations again on the Eclipse!! Can't wait to read your review.

SS not available until 06 model anyway.

SS/SC was on back order from day one.

This is the same problem EVERYBODY had except one guy who never heard of one, showed up at the dealership and bought the first one before anybody else on here.

Patience is a virtue.

It's easy to buy something nobody wants. Chevrolet knows this.

Buying mine was pretty simple. I called the dealership looking for a Cobalt and they said they just got one in that morning. So I told them not to sell it I'll be right down. Needless to say, I bought it that day with it being on the lot less than 24 hours.

OK, I hate to say this, because it IS your new car, but respect the fact that I am saying it with all due respect, and to each his own; GAWD that car is unattractive. I saw one cruising around my town, and I can't say I'm impressed with the styling. The interior is nice looking though, I have to say.

Let's hear this review . . .
