well the subject is exhaust cut outs. one this type of car would they actually work. i tried on my truck and it was loud but awesome. the main question this type of engine does it need alot of back pressure or would you gain some extra hidden ponnies, because it would be sweet to all of a sudden sound super mean when next to some one.

I have never heard and open exhaust on a Cobalt so I can't answer for sure, but I am yet to hear a 4 cyl engine with open exhaust that doesn't sound like garbage. So I assume the Cobalt will be no different. I'm sure it will be loud as hell but will it sound good?

I dont think the purpose of a cutout is for it to sound good, so who cares what it sounds like. If you take it to the track and open it up and it lowers your times, thats all I need to see.

Well maybe the purpose isn't to sound good but I hate annoying sounding exhausts. Now cutouts on an LS1, that sounds good.

Orlandoech: I have to admit your car in that video sounds very nice. I think turbo charged cars have a slight advantage when it comes to exhaust sound because the turbo quiets the high end of the exhaust a little so you don't get the buzzing bee sound as much.

they make some killer electric ones now too. not sure about gains, but it would be cool.

What stops the exhaust from just following the stock piping too.

Wouldn't you want something that blocked the other way while opening the cutout for best gains
