Convince me of which CAI to get...

Okay guys, I know there are plenty of intake threads, but Ive read through em and I am completely undecided. Please help me choose which one to get.

XTC
AEM
Injen

I am extremely paranoid about water and stuff as I live in Canada and we've been gettin some insane amounts of rain, not to mention the slush and crap from the winter.

Thanks!

Our cars are stock with CAI. So why not just get the K&N filter? I've done this and I don't have to worry about water as I keep the stock airbox. I inspected the piping on my S/C and I don't see how it can be restrictive, the plastic has smooth bends and the only possible restriction is from the accordian (sp) tubing connecting to the S/C. How much restriction can this cause?

Cobalt SS Supercharged should go for Fujita
Cobalt SS 2.4 and 2.2 Should go for Injen

Thanks Hack... the Fujita is a little out of my league I think. Its too big and too costly. As for the K&N I bought one about a month ago now, had it in since, I like it, but I want more SC whine and more powa!

K&N CAI, Best Fit, Evenly Matched Price, plus K&N has been doing it for years so they know what they are doing.

I dislike the XTC because its pieced together and reuses the stock air box,

Injen has fitment issues,

Fujita is overpriced,

and Finally if your going AEM you might as well just do the airbox mod.

Just so you know we have most intakes in stock and will ship an intake to Canada for $40 via USPS Express Mail which they will deliver in only 3-5 business days.. It is super fast.

The trick to the Injen is to read the instructions before you button everything up and close the hood. I just put mine in and didn't read the instruction. I had to pull it all appart because I tightend the mount with out checking for clearance so it got smacked by the hood slightly. My mistake though.

The AEM is a waste of money. Do the air box mod for free and get the exact same results.

I know people that swear by the K&N, and had the least fitment issues. I just didn't like the smaller bends it had compared to the Injen's long sweeping bends.

The Injen also has the silicone elbow that leaves a good place to put a water/meth nozzle or CryO2 chiller bulb without destroying the tubing part of the intake. Just order a new elbow and voila good as new. I don't know if you can get that from Injen or not, but I'm sure you could find it on a site that sells silicone bends and connectors for turbo apps.

I'm not sure on the XTC. I never really looked into that one. But like mentioned above, the multi-piece setup didn't appeal to me.

The J Body Performance intake has been back ordered for forever and a half.

What other modifications do you have, if any, right now?

If you are looking for more power and whine, think about upgrading to a smaller pulley, such as a 3.1" or 3.0". A CAI on a stock car is only going to go so far.

Look into getting Stage 2 and the 2.8". Or if warranty isn't a huge issue for you, get stage 1 and a mps from whomever.....

Or you can get some other stage kit, or HPTuners, or etc. .........

Currently right now Im just running a GMPP cat back and Ingalls as far as "performance" wise. Stage 2 will come next summer. Im not looking to make a super fast balt.. just want a lil more juice! LoL. So I figured I would prepare for the Stage 2 by having a cat back and CAI then I will be able to get more out of the Stage 2. I dont really wanna go with a smaller pulley as I dont have the best of luck with cars and it would be my luck somethin would go wrong and no warranty. Not at a stage in my life where I can be paying to fix a car.

Thanks for the great input guys!

Your paranoia is understandable. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance for reccomending a CAI. I'm just going with the K&N drop-in....

Injen also has a water resistant pre filter. I bought onw with my CAI from TTR.

The AEM bypass is pointless because it would have to be mounted befor the MAF meaning it would still be in the fender where the regular filter is. If you mounted after the MAF it would go into limp mode as soon as the bypass opened, assuming running that lean didn't hurt the engine before limp mode activated.

Honestly i've inquired many times (not on this site) about the gains an aftermarket cai would make. The answer I always get is "loud supercharger whine". Nothing is ever said about performance. I think it would be a waist of money. the K&N drop in should suffice.

Stock won't show as much of a gain as you would with a smaller pulley like with GM Stage 2 or the Intense Stages. With those it is highly recomended that you get a custom tune done to adjust for the increased air flow the CAI allows.

I had the Injen in my car, the old one atleast, and I liked it but it was too badly beat up from not fitting well. So I went with the XTC and the air box mod. I like this setup a whole lot better. Plus i like the way the piping fits better up top. Even tho it was a pain the ass to install I still would go with this.

this thread is just like every other intake thread...you want a quick opinion and you will hear every brand of CAI and every mod people have done to their intake...in the end you will be just as lost. just decide. i picked K&N cause i like the company, i have never had a problem with any of their product and would reccomened them to anyone.

use the search button, you will see that every first post on there threads starts the same and you will never get a uniform answer.

i havent had this problem with mine and its been on the car for 5 months now..

i did have a cell one time and later found the problem was that one of the clamps wasnt tight so air was coming in after the MAF, i tightened it down and wala.. fixed.. you should probably go back and make sure everything is tight, more then likely something got knocked loose.

the water problem sounds like you dont have a tight seal arond the bottom part and your sucking water.. n e intake is going to throw a code when you slinging water in the motor
