My First Project - Stage 1

Well I've had my Cobalt SS 4 days now and I'm looking for aftermarket stuff. Here's my first project.
Alright I spent some time on the phone with Julio from
http://www.alkycontrol.com/
He told me that he can do a custom kit for the Cobalt SS but what he needs is confirmation that someone can edit the fuel tables to compensate for the alochol before he taylors a kit. The reason the fuel tables must be edited is because our computers will freak out if we don't.... Alcohol injection is a great concept for high power with poor fuel. It has all of the advantages of nitrous, without any of the disadvantages, PLUS it keeps your combustion chamber COMPLETELY FREE of carbon. After 100,000 miles with alcohol injection being used here and there, the chamber will be clean enough to eat off of. But its main advantage is simply that it reduces piston temps like nitrous, thus reducing detonation. Plus the stuff for it is plain old rubbing alcohol. $1 for 2 quarts at wal-mart. Cheaper than gas actually. So I need a Cobalt SS computer that I can give to a reprogramer to screw around with. For those of you who don't use windshield wiper fluid like me, we can use that tank, mount the pump below it, then run it into the engine. If you want to use your wiper tank, that's no problem, on the passenger side of the engine bay there is room for a tank (Cobalt SS ONLY). This setup should cost as much as a nitrous kit, but be so much better. The best reason is that you are going to be using 20% less fuel at higher RPM's because the alochol compensates for the fuel. Well for all you people out there that want a dyno sheet before you buy a kit, I'll be happy to post one when its all done.
Along with this injection system, I'm going to upgrade (or downgrade?) to a 3" superchager pulley, engine reprograming, high flow catback exhaust, solid state intercooler, and K&N air filter. I hope to hit at least 250-270HP.... If I go over 280 I'll be replacing the pistons and rods with forged ones because stock ones fail at 300HP
Just thought I'd share

Sounds like a great plan. I would use the whole typhoon cold air intake instraed of just the K&N filter though. Once it comes out.

your gonna replace the forged pistons and rods with forged pistons and rods because our forged pistons and rod fail at 300 hp, hmmm thats interesting.

also nitrous is nothing like water injection. Nitrous adds oxygen and adds power, water injection adds to retard detonation and raise the octane.

go here. There is already an alky kit on the market for the cobaltss and redlines. There is nothing custom about it. The devil's own kits are high quality and arent expensive at all. He sells a progressive kit. Thats really the way you want to go to keep the tuning nightmare to a minimum.

Where are you located? If youre near the Chicago area, go to http://digitalhorsepower.corphelp.ne...kets&_m=submit and submit a message about getting a custom flash for you PCM. They could probably work with you on what you want if youre not close to the chicago area.

Yes Eagle rods work up to 550HP @ 8000RPM's and Wiesco pistons work beyond 600HP...... Re-read my post, I'm not doing water injection, which is why the computer must be tuned.

If you read GM ecotec build book, which I know you have, you will find it interesting that the LSJ rods are acceptable in the 450 HP build, but the pistons are not. So maybe the rods are ok it's just the pistons that need replace. But I know what your talking about where is says the LSJ rods and piston are only got to 300 HP.

VaMP sounds like a plan. AFAIK right now there is no one offering a service to recalibrate the ECU for our car. People are looking into it, but who knows how long it will take...

I'm going to replace the pistons for a lower compression ratio and an overbore. But while I have the block out I might as well upgrade the rods for future use.

Check out gmtunersource.com. It has the build guide but not much else; I put the link to that below. Can't wait for the day they finally have a link under the accessories tab that reads "Stage I, Stage II, Stage III for Cobalt SS" ...can't come soon enough.

http://www.gm.com/company/gmtunersou...build_book.htm

hope that helps,
