View Full Version : A Sad Rainy Monday for My Baby SS/SC
pvirga88 11-13-2006, 01:37 PM Went to the Dentist this morning to get a $220.00 cleanning :cussing:
Then went out to my car to find that someone in a Mercedes M350 left some nice dents
and scuffs on my pass. side door. Isn't that lovely. :)
I sat their for a half hour waiting for the police to come so they can make a report about
the incident but the woman showd up before they got their.
She ended up being really cool about the whole thing gave me her info with no problem.
No insurance involvment so far too. She said she'll pay for it as long as the price is good.
My body shop said that the dents could be pulled with no problem and the scuffs might polish out if not the door has to be painted.
Its going to be a $200.00 to $600.00 job depending on if the door needs to be painted or not.
The woman was cool about both prices too.
I hope it works out I hate making claims.
splink 11-13-2006, 01:39 PM gl bro, at you already got lucky that the woman was cool about it
pvirga88 11-13-2006, 01:40 PM Sorry for the repost my computer froze as I clicked to post it.
Imlikedrpepper 11-13-2006, 01:41 PM At least she is being cool about the whole thing, but she should get some glasses or something.
splink 11-13-2006, 01:41 PM yeah, i get that alot too
Jackalope 11-13-2006, 01:44 PM Good luck man but I've found once it comes time to pay they change thier minds. If I were you I'd call my insurence company and at least let them know that way if she does bail your still covered.

I'd be a little wary of an estimate like that. a body shop should be able to tell you the exact price of a repair. Next thing you know it could be 1000$ or more. The best thing you can do is go to at least 3 shops and get estimates and pick the one that you feel comfortable with.
Your estimate should look like this:
Repair door shell 1.0 hrs (or more depending on the damage)
R&I belt molding .2 hrs
R&I bodyside molding .3 hrs
R&I door handle .3 hrs
Refinish Door panel 2.0 hrs (IF it needs to be painted)
Blend quarter panel or fender (time) (if they paint the door they need to blend into adjacent panels)
R&I belt molding on quarter .3 hrs
Materials etc
A body shop should be able to tell you if something should be painted or not. Theres no guessing about it, same as paintless dent repairs. And depending on the bodyshop if they are painting your car they may or may not R&I things (Remove and install).
But i can guarantee you that if you go thru insurance they will be R&Ing everything for paint. It the best possible repair, that way you get no paint on your moldings and such.
I'm a Automotive repairman myself btw. You should check out my thread on My car. I'm in the process of repairing it. Worked on it all week-end :):ca:

The Guy I brought it too is a friend of the family. He does an excellent job and doesn't rip me off. He gave me such a range because he usually makes the estimates more than they should if we are going to use insurance or not. He does this so he can help me make some money out of the deal or he can repair other minor defect in the paint. Also while its their i am going to have him remove all the badges from the car might even take off the spoiler? The last time I brought a car to him I ended up making over a thousand on it.
He banged out the dent in the trunk and fixed the bumper mounts for nothing and gave me the insurance money. I slipped him a couple of hundred. then I sold the car for another $2500.00. thats how I put the down on this one. This is the only shop I'll bring my car too.
Tomtwtwtw 11-13-2006, 04:25 PM I hope you got her name, address, at least 2 phone numbers, and a signed paper saying she'll cover you. If not, you've got no police report, and no proof that she did anything. She'd be able to back out and stick you with the bill without any problems, no matter how cool she seemed at the time. The fact she came back is a good sign, but *always* CYA.

edash 11-14-2006, 02:11 AM that sucks man! it was the total opposite for me.. you guys ever notice how our doors are heavy and long?? well last week at work i ran out to my car on break and opend it and stopped the door in it's first actual place it will stay open. i leaned into my car and boom. i turn around and the wind blew my door into this new red camry. i pulled the door away from the camry and there was a yellow and white smudge about 6inches long up the passenger door..... i quickly got a napkin from the glove box spit and scrubed the hell out of it for my whole break...you could never tell it had happend. i was luck that day... LoL
pvirga88 11-14-2006, 11:27 AM I just got the estimate from the Body Shop. I'ts really not that bad only $344.70.
He is going to pop the dent and polish the door to remove the scuffs. With al the rain we had last night most of the paint scuffs came off.
I hope the woman except the estimate. I don't want to be stuck with the insurance paperwork that shit sucks.
splink 11-14-2006, 11:29 AM insurance paperwork?
when i had an accident they did it all for me on the computer, i just told them the details, they filled in the blanks
depending on the insurance company you have 30 days to file a claim with the insurance company so you shouldnt have to worry about her deciding not to pay cash
pvirga88 11-14-2006, 03:01 PM Well let me rephrase that.
The Claiming Process. Calling the persons insurance company is the hasile.
I couldn't take any good pictures because my car is too damn shinny and all you seen in them is my dumbass leaning down taking the pic. Also we never filled out a police report and I didn't physically see her hit me car. The only proof I have is that her paint was on my car and her molding fit perfectly into the dent, but without physical proof it will be a bitch claiming it. It's my word against hers. Young Kid in a Cobalt against a Doctor in a Mercedes. If I don't hear from her by tonight I have no choice to claim it against her insurance. My shop poped the dent and buffed it out this morning for me and its $120.00 for the quick fix. I am going to wait to get the car painted in the spring time. It's probably going to get scratched to shit in the winter anyway.
ChevyCobaltLS 11-14-2006, 03:24 PM Here is the ding on my car. The girl that did it was cool about it. Her insurance is paying for it. The repair bill is $600.00.

pvirga88 11-14-2006, 08:52 PM Picking up the check tomorrow in the amount of $344.20.
I got my car fixed for $120.00.
I made $224.20.
The car still has a couple of scuff marks that couldn't be buffed out.
I could have him repair the door all the way, but the dent is what made the whole thing look bad and that was removed with no problem.
The Car is Black I can't keep the scratches off forever.
I'll just keep the extra money and save it for some future engine mods.
