Gonna need a new 2.0
Gonna need a new 2.0
I couldn't stand it anymore and took my SS/SC in to the stealership last night because of the irratic idle and guage cluster not lighting in cloudy conditions.
For engine details, skip the next paragraph.
<rant> There was a huge to do over renting me a car. I have a ticket for no front license plate. The court date was scheduled for late October, but pushed back by the courts till December (must not be a priority huh?). Because the date is past the court date, they would not accept my ticket, and would not rent me a car. ONLY after causing a commotion in the lobby did management finally agree to let me use one of thier cars. They wanted me to get a note from my lawyer today explaining it was pushed back, which I did. THEN they said it wasn't good enough, and I need to get a letter on IL state letterhead from the circuit court. Some customer service. </rant>
What I found out today: A bolt fell out of the timing system and I was told that the block is trashed. The service guy said "new motor", but I don't know what that entails. I hope they replace the whole damn thing and not jsut the bottom half.
Can any GM mechanics weigh in on this as far as what they'd replace and what they wouldn't replace when they do an engine swap?
By the way, this is a BONE STOCK 2006 SS/SC, no mods.

You should get a whole new engine seeing how its warrenty and that means a GM part and
GM does not make anything other then a long block.
No such thing from GM as a short block outside of the GMPP line up and even then the ECO is only a complete engine no short block there either.
You'll get a whole brand spanking new shiney engine for you baby! Congrats!

they should, if you have to get something on your car repaired, gm should have a system, the more repair or cost they intake, the more points you should get to redeem to performance parts or something
you'll get a new block, rotating assembly, head, valve train, and oil pan. and maybe a few other things. i'd ask to see the engine, and see what exactly happened, cause i'd think a bolt falling into your engine would cause a little more than an irratic idle...thats just my 2 cents though..
Yea, a bolt falling into your engine, and all you had was a bad idle!? WTF! I'd say you got WAY lucky if they are going to swap the motor under warrenty for that....
But, you live in troy? I go to school down the street in Edwardsville, and I have a buddy who lives in Troy by the Dominoes.

The irratic idle was from the software, it needed to be re-flashed. It has needed that since I bought the car less than 13 months ago. The problem I was having with the bolt was a TERRIBLE idle noise, it was rattling really bad. And the fuel economy was low (VERY LOW 20s).
They'd BETTER change out the engine under warranty, the failure wasn't a result of anything I did to it.
I've looked at the lemon law for my state and it has to be in the shop 30 business days. If by some nightmmare they did have it 30 days, how does would that work with the money I've already payed into the car I have?

Yah I'm in Troy, between E-ville and Troy on the backroads. There's a few SS/SCs out by me.

The lemon law for IL states that if my car is in the shop for repair 30 or more business days during its warranty cycle, I'm entitled to a replacement.
It really doesn't matter to me if the 30 day cycle is due to parts or the shop's busy schedule. It's all transparent to me. If it takes GM over 30 days to get an engine in, that simply isn't my problem.
I dropped my car off 11/15 at 3:30 PM. As it stands, I've been without the car for roughly 7 business days.
I'd really like to see this extend past 30 days to see what the dealer is going to do.

You will get an entirely new engine. Not just the bottom end. It takes 3-4 weeks for the engine to come in and about a day or two for the install depending on the dealership. They will break in about a 100 miles on the car to ensure all is well, and then hand it back over to you. I speak from experience needless to say.
I hope you have good luck with your new engine. Be careful to break it in properly.
As far as money paid in , in not real sure . I'm guessing they would buy the car back from you for what you paid , or give you a replacement ss for what you owe on your current one. Agian i'm guessing.
