Ok, for Christmas, as a present to myself.....a very expenisve one at that, I plan on buying the vcm suite professional from HPTuners. Now....I HAVE NO FREAKIN CLUE WHEN IT COMES TO A CARS COMPUTER! or even tuning a car . Is there anyone in Northern NJ that has or knows how to use HPTuners???? I would greatly appreciate it if you could teach me. I already read like the whole HPTuners Forum and downloaded a couple of newb guides.

Ehhh, they are more southern nj...like almost 2 hours away. However, I belive the Tuning Doctor is in Trenton, which is like 45 minutes away. They don't do cobalts but I would just need to learn how to tune a car. However, I don't think they are going to teach some kid to tune his car for free.

Memphisf24 I'm in the same boat you are when it comes to tuning. I'm also in Nj, but I'm just takin the car to get tuned as a christmas gift from my g\f. I'd like to learn how to tune also.

 

Let me know when you're going to "play" with the tuning, I'd love to check it out.

 

LOL yeah guys, when I learn, or WHILE i'm learning, I will help you guys out as well. I'm actually picking up my brand new laptop tomorrow morning and ordering HPTuners Proffessional . As soon as I get HPTuners, I will be tinkering right away (i've been studying the past few days hehe). Lets just hope I don't blow anything up

Update: I already have 5 pages of notes within 2 hours of researching (just tonight). When i'm done with the notes....all I have to do is actually figure out what the hell I wrote down lol.

Yeah i'm up for that. There aren't many parameters to change for the cobalt....I was expecting a LOT more. I've been playing around with my timing, fans, rev limit, and dtc's a little bit.

I looked at a c6 z06 tune....forget it. I'm so lost lol

 

are you kidding me? there is a ton of stuff to fine tune on these cars... its downright confusing as helll man...

 

lol i know that, but I was expecting worse (from what I was learning on hptuners forums). I was expecting something like what the corvette has...I don't know...maybe i'm doing it wrong...

 

The parameters really do vary from vehicle to vehicle & year to year...when I first got a peak at an LS2 file a year ago my head started spinning because of all the differences. As far as the amount of parameters goes there is always going to be a certain amount needed to get a good tune
Fan temp turn on/off
TM
Gear/Tire parameters
Spark
Fuel
Transmission

as long as you have all of those you can get a good tune one way or the other. LS1 tuning has been available for many years now and over the course of the last 3 years about 100 tables/parameters have been added by the HPT crew to LS1's over the initial parameters & im sure as feature requests are made for 2.0/2.4 motors they will add more & more parameters for them as well.

 

My friend Mike with the S4 is pretty knowledgeable about this type of stuff, he told me he would like to talk to you about it. When we go cruising for promiscuous girls I'll bring him along.
