13 second lunch box HHR? What is going on here?

Not sure if you all know, but the hugger is gone.
16 years bought brand new and let her go 2 weeks ago.
Recent divorce and upkeep on 2 cars was jst a headache.
My email and screen names revolved around that damn car. Lol

Anyway, went to a great guy who runs KOTS.
So my fastest car is now an HHR so i decided it needed some mo powah.

Me, tman and will got together again and went E47 mix.

Sadly, because of work, we chose the morning of the track to work it out.
And we went to track on a huge event day.
Was several clubs who we had to wait like a redheaded step child for before we ran meaning runs were hours apart.

Anyway, we went from a 14.0 @ 102 to a.......

13.9 @ 107
Lol 2.35 sixty foots.
I'm so gettin drag radials next year.

thing was cooking at only 20psi.

i even missed my 2-3 nls cuz it ppulled thru 2nd faster then i was reasy for so bypassed the nls and drooped boost for a second. Wulda been a 13.7 run easy on a basic tune.

We have a few mph traps on it when we DL the next tune.
i left before loading tylers last tune cuz I sat for 2 hours for mylmy last run and had enough of that ****.

Sooooo......beware the soon to be 110 trapping lunch box

Thanks for reading.

My first run at the track was hilarious:

4/32 General crap all seasons, went there without the intent of running but got to go for free so why not.
HPT 26 PSI

Bogged the launch ran 14.1 @ 108 with a 2.6 60 FT LOLOLOL.

Didn't run again due to a huge open wheel dragster yard sale on the track that took hours to clean, and I was having TOB issues so I got nervous about going again, and I was driving it out of the hole NOT launching. I was having a clutch pressure issues where after the pass my clutch was SUPER soft for like 15 minutes. Was fine later that day but TOB let go 1500 miles later.

Next year 17" SS NA wheels with radials and a WOT box with rear bags should net a low 13.

Very difficult to get HHR's in the 12's weighing more than 500lbs more than a cobalt.

Do you have brembos? If you don't, 16's and slicks could make 12's with suspension mods and aggressive tune.

The thing that makes it easier for the HHR's is the auto Trans makes such a huge difference in getting off the line and down the track.

Congrats Hugger!! I was on e47 for 2 years before I turbo swapped.

Seeing all you guys talking bout your traps and what leads me to tell you bout my last track day. Built engine with a pte 5558. Likewise on all-seasons best of the night was a 13.5@117 with a 2.5 60', I know it horrible for whats done to the car, lol. But what sucks is the cars best time has been a 12.9@111 when I was e47 and stock turbo, lol. Sucks seeing crappy times and knowing what the car "should" do if I can get it outta the hole, lol

How are you launching and what are you traction mods? (tires?mounts?springs?)

To OP;
I would suggest that before worrying about doing too many mods, spend more time learning to launch;
Keep in mind that 100% stock, one magazine pulled a 13.9 when these were new.

I am not trying to toot my own horn, but I broke out of the 14's at my elevation (with crappy DA) with minimal mods* - but it did take practice to figure out where to launch, and where to shift.
(it was nothing to really puff up my chest about considering the mods, but compared to other similar cars which I had seen run in my neck of the woods, I was doing pretty good)

You could chime in about having more weight, but you also have a 4.05:1 FDR ratio versus the Cobalt 3.82:1 ratio - which should help you via torque multiplication.

I once drove a car to your neck of the woods for a giant car show/swap meet/track event - and ran my car there - granted my car was naturally aspirated, but I was running (iirc) a good 1/2 second quicker there than here...
I am confident I would run my cobalt noticably better there than here - I know that when I drive to my mom's (LA), the car is making noticably more power there...

* = K&N drop in filter, MPX catless pipe, Trifecta 22psi tune, older set of DR's on LSJ wheels.

You you can't compare my hhr times to.the cobalt.
300 to 400 lb is significant.

Yes at gear ratio but it's trying to get 3300lb off the line.
My cobalt trapped 4mph more on exact same 93oct ttune.

i drive it like i stole it . these are easy to drive hard.
decent launch and a few nls.
track prep and tires are everything

Those mounts are on my list. Just got my HPT, ordering the zzp 3" nocat DP w/ angled bung and THEN are the mounts..... my goal here is to hang with the stock 5.bro's from a roll. On 93. If I can trap 109-112 I should hang w/ them on the street If I take the hit. I have zero interest in the et. Just want no hop. Wrong wheel drive has scarred me from holeshots. On a side note the stock DP on this car is huge compared to the stock DP on my Neon and evo. GM did the whole exhaust right.... then added learn down. DOH!

Forget about the motor mounts. Get Powell rear cabs and his rotated trans mounts and you won't have to worry about wheel hop.

friggen hate the vibrations from mounts.. I have ottp stage 3. honestly ive never launched it or gone off the line hard in the 4k or so on my new trans so I couldn't make an assumption of how well they help. My first gear is limited so the only spin I have is through 2nd which doesn't hop.
