The Official: Why My 2.xL Cobalt Sucks in the snow thread! (Post stories)

So, I live approximately 45miles away from my work, I work pretty much on the border of IL and IA...

Last night at about 12:15am the snow began....

i get off work at 3:30am...

When i was leaving, there was only about 6 or so inches of snow on the ground...

driving roughly 10 - 20mph all the way home, it took my normal 30ish min drive, to a 2 hr cruise....

between the snowbanks only about 8 inches high, plowing into them, making my car sound like its gonna die, the heater goes to limp mode for a few min...then back to normal..

The outcome: a **** load of scratches, a broken headlight, Snow covering my entire radiator except for about 2 inches of it... Broken Neons, My Rims (Black 5 spokes w/chrome lip) have snow/ice caked in between the gaps....so its a solid rim now...

But, to top it off, Pirellis with decent tread = suck.

I suggest all of you be careful in the snow, these cars officialy suck(inthesnow)

Dude, we only have 5.5 inches of ground clearence. You were scraping the snow. You were lucky to get home. Also, you were scraping the snow, the wheels would not have the full weight of the car, hence little to no traction.

mmm well, I've gotten my balt stuck once and that was last winter had to dig the snow out from under the car I had packed it up so tight. That was at the very end of my driveway after a heavy snow, simply underestimated the size of a drift. Anyways I learned. Aside from that the cobalt na ss handled well on icy, snowy roads with stock tires. Just need to watch the clearance and use your head, its not a humvee.

I agree, i have had no problems driving in snow. Your only as good as you drive. NH has some pretty bad storms.

I had no problems in it and we have 12 inches on my side of town.

Your biggest problem from it all were your tires, the pirellis are summer tires, plus pirellis suck anyways. Thats why everyone thinks these cars suck in the snow, they dont switch to winter tirs.

man, I drove home last night too, maybe about 1" of snow on the road, but it was still coming down and pretty windy....This Car in Stock form is not a good snow car...I could barely take off (but the fact we just got 2 days of rain and a quick freeze might have helped that) and my stopping distance was huge at 5 miles an hour....My ABS works well though....I was so happy I kept the old cavalier, that thing is fun in the snow with my Snow and Ice tires on it...I was running around all day today in about 6 inchs of snow without any problems...

Six inches of snow on top of the 3 inches of freezing rain you recieved that day. Cars dont drive on ice. I know its not fun. But nights like that you should sleep in your car or something. This was the kind of storm that takes people's lives if they arent smart about it.

Ived Lived in Utah during one of the worst winters theyve ever had, but the kicker is, utah also took care of they're roads.

Here, I had my stock(very very very bald) Pirelli 4 Seasons on....and they sucked ass...

Today with the snow packed down, and iced out, it stilll took me awhile to get traction (at intersections & stop signs).
