Smile AEM Cold Air Intake for SS S/C

Hi everyone.

I give a call today at AEM sale's department and ask when will a CAI will be available for our SS S/C. They told me they are working on it and told me to call back in about 4 to 6 week. So maybe early september for a AEM CAI ? No idea about the HP gains, but probably 10 HP or so ...

it better actually be a true cold air intake (sealed to the front of the car) or else it isnt going to do anything better than the stock unit, if it isnt sealed to the front is just taking in as much hot air from the engine compartment as it is from the front of the car itself, most of the people who claim they have "cold air intakes" are really running "hot air intakes"

Um, Cobalt SS's come with cold air intakes stock. Our airbox is below the engine compartment by the wheel well. I don't think it would suck in hot air.

A CAI is a CAI. The difference between them will only maybe 1 hp. Just find somewhere that has a mandrel bender and bend yourself a CAI following the stock piping. Since you already have a factory "CAI" i really dont see much improvement over just putting a cone filter at the end of the stock piping. Theyre going to mark it up huge, and its only going to give you minimal gains.

ta da!

the only real good way to up power is a ram air, which is used on the 272 cobalt. you guys actually have a pretty good setup compared to the RL.

not to mention a roots blower is going to move as much air as it will every rotation no matter what, you can reduce resistance slightly, but when a factory setup isn't quite restrictive, you can't really improve it much more

dont even get me started on "Ram Air"

Ram air is a gimick. nothing more. You can not physically stuff more air into the engine without a power adder. Ram air is nothing more than a bad CAI. With as many bends that would have, it would greatly increase the inefficiency of the intake.

I completely disagree with the "we already have a CAI intake and its gonna have minimal gains"... the filter inside the air box is very restictive = less air flow and its in a box..... a cone filter will sound better(off topic) and take in much more air... also the new AEM/injen styled tubing could possibly have a bigger sized opening could have less turns and make the air have a more diretional flow to the engine.

of course these new intakes are gonna give us SS owners 50hp but im hoping for around 7-10hp.. hey anything helps plus they sound awesome!

Well, its going to be a longer wait than that, since we are now looking for a Cobalt SS.

See the thread I started if you are interested in us using your car for product development and want a free intake....must be able to get the car to us in southern california.

Ramair only works if you find a big enough positive pressure are and only at triple digit speeds.

Yah ram air is only exffective at very high rates of speed....at normal drving speed its not sucking any more air faster than what the car is moving at
