Vibrant Headers HP gain?
Vibrant Headers HP gain?
I've been looking at what to buy next as I have enough money for almost anything except forced induction. I saw that Vibrant is having a group buy for headers and I have heard from other cars that they give a significant hp boost but I dont know about the Cobalt. Anyone wanna help here, what kind of gains are we looking at on a stock exhaust?
Well I know that the RSX is rated at 155hp stock while the Type-S is 210 (fhp). I'm pretty sure from what someone told me that the RSX Type-S has better headers than the non type-S and that is the only part that is different. If that is true then being that we have a larger engine (2.4L) we should be looking at least 60hp gain and for $680 good lord that is the ultimate thing to buy for the Cobalt. If all of this is true then I would purchase one in a heartbeat. I would easily take 231+hp for $700.
We do not even have dyno numbers ourselves. However like you said on past experiences with vibrant they have provided excellent numbers. The headers have been out for the ion redlines for a little while. Maybe if you dig around on the saturn forums you will find a dyno number. I imagine they will have the best out of the group seeing how they engineered it from the headers all the way down to a highflow cat.
Me neither, I saw that they were talking about the 2.4L ecotech and the Redline but no numbers. These numbers will be the deciding factor if I buy it or not. I would be glad to hand you my money for that much horsepower

you should be shot in the face for thinking you'll gain 60hp from the headers...

Yea after doing a lot of research about headers I realized that that wasn't possible lol. Too bad I won't be getting headers right now, I still want to know what the hell pushes that Type-S to 210. Are all of the bolt-ons just upgraded?
but in all honesty, could be many things...a intercooler...(ive never looked at the car so i dont know), a better radiator, better exhaust, different cam shafts, bigger bore of the cylinders, better pistons, less restrictive exhaust/intake...hell, better tranny (yes..trannys do affect HP to the wheels).....
many many things.
many many things.

Well what gives the K20s such great power is flow. Their heads flow an amzaing amount of air and have very efficient head design quench areas and compression to maximize combustion while still maintianing great gas mileage. I can't find the post now but i remember seeing that a K20 head flows more than any other design out right now. I recall it made even the 4g63 look pretty anemic.

I'm thinking about getting the Ingalls Torque Dampener first and then probably a tune/exhaust. More then likely i'll hit Ingalls then tune since you can go back for free after the first time.
yeah when i was 17 i thought a canister muffler was just a tip you put on your existing muffler and it somehow made it loud. i also thought buying a resonated tip would make it a lot louder. i've learned a lot since :P
it will depend on your current mods, i think it will t decrease teh torque a little bit but give you a better mid-top end. probably 10-20 hp dependant on the car. but the stock manifolds suck..... i am getting the vibrant header/DP verrrrry soon!.... but im also getting a 2.6 pulley, 60lb injectors, exedy clutch, CAB and transaxle mounts, and a great tune..... lol so my gains will be slighty larger
I'll probably get banned for this, but eBay scdyne header dyno tested 14 HP gain. Anyone have an SCdyne header they want to sell? No, because they make power - even if getting one from scdyne is all but impossible.
