Just installed my GMPP intake on my 07 2.2 cobalt. My cost was 250, not bad compared to the original price. Everything fit and installed perfect. Now the only question I have is does anyone have a slight gap issue with their hood? My hood sits slightly higher on the filter side now, and I was just wondering if there was a fix for this.

 

i always thought it sealed up good, but i just went out after it rained and lifted my hood and on the outer side above the wheel it was wet. i dont see how water would get there though.

 

I will go check mine. I just installed it yesterday and its been raining Ill go see if mine is wet also.

 

Im not saying that it will get wet but my hood isnt flush any more it is slightly higher. I guess it might be more of a cosmetic thing for me. I just didnt know if i could adjust something or if everything has (break in) or something like that.

My GMPP intake fit ok from the start. Is your hood lower on the driver side while the passenger side is up at the edge of the fender (driver side hood edge look like it's below the edge of the fender)? If that's your problem you can adjust the rubber hood bumper to compensate -- doing that will also lower the passenger side a bit.

Also, make sure the rubber lip seal is pushed all the way down on the air box.

I don't have problems with water, even when I wash the car.

 

are u sure ur hood wasn't like that before? my hood is pushed up on the driverside but it's always been like that since i had the car.

 

Two questions for you.

First, is the gasket along the top of the air box sealing nicely against the underside of the hood? I have seen where the underhood blanket has needed some trimming to allow a good fit.

Second, as you have 2007, do you have Secondary Air Injection? I have yet to see a 2007 so I don't know if they put it on those or not.

 

Sorry guys, and thanks for the help!! I was just rushn it this morn so my boss wouldnt yell at me. I just got done lookn at it and i turned the filter 3/4 turn, and it flopped down nicely!! But i think there still needs to be some triming. thanks again ill try and post pics.

 

The thing I've noticed about the GMPP filter element is its still a crappy styled filter. Just a gausey paper element filter, I think GMPP could have done better.

Halfcent I believe the 07's don't have SAI because of the new ignition system.

Yeah I dont like that filter either but I havent found a Fram or K&N thats small enough to fit the space.

 

GM has a problem with oiled filters. They say the oil pollutes the MAF sensor, which might be why some CAIs throw codes. The paper filter is consistent with their engineering findings.

 

Very true. However the cause of the MAF being messed up from an oiled filter is generally over oiling the filter.

But I Saw one of these at work and was very disappointed by the filter in it. Not to mention the price of it considering you get so little

Okay, here's whay you do now. Take of the rest of that silly plastic engine cover. Polish the valve cover. Then (and you would be the first that I know of), make a better looking wiring harness for those 2007 ignition coils (they just look hedious).

 

So no SAI on 2007..... great. So the 2006 2.2's will be the only cars with no options for intake/header.... I'm thrilled.

 

Ill see what i can do!

 

not really about the 06 comment^^ i have an 06, mine didnt come with sai, probably an earlier one. there should be a way to disable it if you do.

 

Wow I didn't realize the 07 2.2s have the separate coils like the 2.4s. Something tells me there isn't enough slack in the wiring harness to neatly bundle it all together and route it more neatly, but I'm sure planning to check on it (i.e., when its not raining).

Given the choice, I would expect the GMPP intake to seal pretty tight against the hood insulation. Sure, the filter will keep dust and crap out of the engine, but I'd feel better knowing there wasn't anything sneaking in past the gap at the edge of the hood. I remember how my Beretta used to get sand all over the engine whenever I took it to Michigan in the middle of the winter. And around home it was always a film of salt.
